According to information from his family, after a period of illness due to old age, scholar Nguyen Dinh Dau passed away at 12:00 on September 20, at the age of 104.
Scholar Nguyen Dinh Dau was born in 1920 in Hanoi. In 1941, he graduated from the Polytechnic School (Hanoi) and then participated in revolutionary activities. After the August Revolution, when the Provisional Government was established, he was appointed as Secretary of the economic sector for Minister Nguyen Manh Ha. In 1951, Nguyen Dinh Dau went to France to study at the Catholic University of Paris and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1953.
Also during his time in France, Nguyen Dinh Dau, along with patriotic Vietnamese intellectuals such as Hoang Xuan Han, Nguyen Manh Ha, and Nguyen Ngoc Bich, participated in the movement calling on the French Government to negotiate with the Ho Chi Minh Government. In early 1955, he returned to Vietnam to become a history and geography professor at Nguyen Ba Tong High School, Saigon (today's Bui Thi Xuan School).
In the 1960s, Nguyen Dinh Dau began his research activities and published his works in the Southern press. His works were highly appreciated by experts. In addition, he was also an active fighter for peace. In 1974-1975, he was sent by Vice President in charge of peace negotiations Nguyen Van Huyen (Government of the Republic of Vietnam) to Davis camp to participate in ceasefire negotiation activities.

After the country's reunification, Nguyen Dinh Dau continued his research work and published many valuable works on history and geography, especially the research work on the issue of Vietnam's sovereignty over the East Sea. These include many valuable books such as Vietnam's national title & borders, Vietnam's land register during the Nguyen Dynasty, Vietnam's ceramic and silk road on the East Sea... researching and affirming the sovereignty of the Vietnamese people over the East Sea as well as over the two archipelagos of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa...
Not only present in research works, Nguyen Dinh Dau is also an example for younger generations to follow in terms of learning spirit, progress as well as seriousness in work. At the age of over 100, scholar Nguyen Dinh Dau still regularly surfs the web, uses smartphones and computers skillfully to research documents and write research articles.
In 2022, he and researcher Nguyen Dinh Tu will still participate in exchanges and conversations with young people in the program "One Hundred Years of Vietnamese History" at the Ho Chi Minh City General Science Library.
With his research works, Nguyen Dinh Dau has won many awards such as Tran Van Giau Award 2005, Phan Chau Trinh In 2008... In addition, he was also awarded the Great Solidarity Medal by the Vietnam Fatherland Front for his efforts in preserving identity and building national unity.
