Scholarships in the best study abroad cities in the world

To study abroad in these 10 cities, international students can hunt for full government scholarships or partial support from organizations and universities.

The QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) ranking organization announced the top 10 best cities for international students in 2024 at the end of July. London is at the top, followed by two Asian representatives, Tokyo and Seoul. The rest are mostly from Australia and European countries.

Here are some scholarships available for international students to study in these cities:

1. London (UK)

- The UK Government's Chevening Scholarship is the most valuable scholarship for international students who want to study here. The scholarship usually opens in September every year, covering all costs for candidates to pursue a master's program (1 year) at 150 universities.

- Euraxess UK is a support program for researchers coming to the UK, run by the British Council. The Euraxess UK website posts many support programs and recruitments from universities and research organizations. Candidates can visit for detailed information.

- Some universities that offer scholarships for international students in London: West London; Westminster; Goldsmiths College of the University of London; Imperial College London; London School of Economics and Political Science.

2. Tokyo (Japan)

- Full scholarships from the Japanese Government (MEXT) for international students at various levels of study, including vocational training, language training, bachelor's, master's and doctoral programs. In 2024, the scholarship accepts applications in April 2023, written exams in June, and interviews in July.

- The Otsuka Toshimi Foundation offers scholarships to international students under the age of 38, pursuing undergraduate degrees in medicine, pharmacy, nutrition and health, physical education or business administration. Scholarships are usually awarded in March each year.

- Some schools offering scholarships in Tokyo: Keio University; Aoyama Gakuin University; Tokyo Metropolitan University; Tokyo University of Science.

3. Seoul (South Korea)

- The Korean Government Scholarship is awarded annually to international students from colleges, universities and masters. This scholarship covers all airfare, insurance costs, Korean language training and living expenses for international students for 2-5 years. This year, the undergraduate scholarship is accepting applications until October 6, including 262 scholarships, selected through the Embassy and universities. Of these, at least 4 scholarships are for Vietnamese candidates through the Embassy.

- Some universities in Seoul have scholarships for international students: Chung-Ang, Seoul National University, Hanyang University, Kyung Hee.

4. Melbourne, Sydney (Australia)

- The Australian Government Scholarship (AAS) usually opens applications in February every year, providing full support for international students studying master's programs in this country in the fields of Economics, Transportation, Education, Agriculture, Gender Equality, Environment, Energy...

- Destination Australia scholarships include more than 1,000 scholarships, worth up to 15,000 AUD (235 million VND) for students to study in rural areas of Australia.

- The Australian Government Research Training Program (AGRTP) is available to international postgraduate students at a number of participating universities.

- Some universities in Melbourne offer scholarships for international students: La Trobe University Excellence Scholarship, University of Melbourne Research Scholarship, Monash University International Excellence Scholarship.

- Some universities offering scholarships in Sydney: Macquarie University Vice-Chancellor's International Scholarship (partial tuition fee support), University of Technology Sydney scholarship.

5. Munich, Berlin (Germany)

Most German universities are tuition-free. In addition, some institutions and universities offer additional scholarships:

- DAAD Scholarships of the German Academic Exchange Service, including many full scholarships for lecturers, master's students and researchers. The value and application period of the scholarship depends on each program.

- Deutschland Stipendium: Merit-based scholarships, worth about 300 Euros per month (7.7 million VND) to support talented students.

- Universities offering scholarships in Munich: Technical University of Munich, Ludwig-Maximilians University of Munich, Munich Business School, Munich Aerospace School.

6. Paris (France)

- Eramus+: This is a full scholarship for students pursuing master's programs in the European Union. The scholarship usually opens for applications in October every year. Selected candidates can study in three European countries for 1-2 years.

- Eiffel Scholarship: A program of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, providing full scholarships for international students studying master's and doctoral programs in France. In addition to free tuition, social insurance, housing allowance (about 50%), visa fees, round-trip airfare, international students also receive 1,181 - 1,700 euros (about 30.4 - 43.8 million VND) per month depending on the level of study. The scholarship application period is usually in October every year.

- Some universities in Paris offer scholarships to international students: ENS group, Kent Paris University, Paris Polytechnic.

7. Zurich (Switzerland)

- Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships are for PhD students (with a master's degree or higher) or artists (with a bachelor's degree). The application period is around August - September every year, depending on the type of scholarship.

- In Zurich, international master's students can refer to ETH Zurich (Federal Institute of Technology Zurich) scholarships and scholarships from the UBS Center, Graduate School of Economics at the University of Zurich.

8. Boston (USA)

- The US Government's Fulbright Program offers full scholarships to candidates (with a master's, doctoral or equivalent degree) to come to the US to conduct research or teach at universities and colleges. In Vietnam, the 2024 program accepts applications from June to 5:00 p.m. on October 17.

- East-West Center Scholarship: Graduate scholarships for students from the Asia-Pacific region to study at select US schools.

- Boston University International Student Scholarships (including Trustee Scholarships and President's Scholarships).
