The 4.0 industrial revolution and digital transformation are rapidly changing many industries, including journalism and media. The transformation trend of the journalism and media industry has also raised the issue of human resources, requiring university education programs to change accordingly.
Grasping the above trend, in 2022, the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology - PTIT pioneered the opening of a digital-oriented journalism major, with major changes in training content and methods. Students are taught knowledge in three majors: journalism, technology and design. In which, technology is identified as the foundation and pillar of journalism. Courses on data journalism, tools for processing effects in digital journalism, collecting and processing digital journalism data; AI technology in digital journalism data analysis... are trained for the first time in the field of journalism and communications in Vietnam.
Students studying this major also learn and practice on digital technology platforms, participate in operating digital newsrooms with the guidance of experienced lecturers and reputable journalists. The curriculum is constantly updated according to changes in technology in the field of journalism and media. Students will have access to new technologies that are being applied in practice.
Recognizing that a high-quality learning environment is the key to developing talent, PTIT has invested heavily in facilities. The school’s labs and studios are designed for students to practice and experience new technologies such as AI, blockchain, metaverse, etc.
In addition, in the training program at PTIT, students not only master specialized knowledge but also participate in full soft skills courses to become global citizens.
Many career prospects

Associate Professor Dr. Hoang Huu Hanh - Director of the International Training Center, in charge of the Multimedia Department of PTIT said: "Cross-field training will help the academy make the most of "technology brainpower", and at the same time open up many breakthroughs in training journalism human resources in Vietnam. The goal of the program, in addition to providing journalism human resources with strong political will and professional ethics, students also have knowledge and skills in journalism, digital technology and content data management, and the ability to quickly adapt to different working environments, in the context of constantly changing digital technology".
