In 2021, photos taken at the hospital bed of the Gastroenterology Department of Yinzhou People's Hospital, Zhejiang, shared by hospital nurses attracted a lot of attention from Chinese netizens.
In the photo, Mr. Tran (68 years old) is taking care of his wife who has cancer. Because Mrs. Tran's health is very weak after many cancer treatments, at night, Mr. Tran tied a red string from Mrs. Tran's hospital bed to his hip.
He said he did this because he was afraid he would fall asleep and not hear his wife calling him. If he tied the rope, Mrs. Tran would just have to pull it lightly and he would wake up and take care of her.
“Because my wife urinates a lot at night and she has to urinate every hour. Because of her illness, her voice is very weak and small, almost unable to make a sound. Then I thought of tying a rope to her bed, the rope will be connected to my waist. When my wife needs, she just needs to pull the rope and I will wake up,” said Mr. Tran.

The person who shared these warm images was nurse Ha Quy Dao at the hospital's Gastroenterology Department.
She wrote on her personal page: “Every time I went to check the hospital room at night, I saw Mr. Tran tie a red string around his waist, the other end tied to Ms. Tran’s bed. The red string is like a proof of their love, with the meaning “I am always by your side”. This image helps us believe in love more.”
It is known that Mr. Tran and Mrs. Tran have been married for more than 40 years. In daily life, the two always respect each other and their marital relationship is extremely harmonious and happy.
However, their peaceful life was disrupted when Mrs. Tran was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2020.
Mrs. Tran then had to be hospitalized for long-term treatment. Since his wife became ill, Mr. Tran has been accompanying and taking care of Mrs. Tran day and night in the hospital.
Thanks to Mr. Tran's meticulous care, Mrs. Tran gradually felt more secure in her treatment. The red string tied to the bed made her feel more comfortable. Mrs. Tran emotionally said: "I married the right person. After more than 40 years of living together, we have an understanding of each other that almost needs no words to express."
