Located in the middle of the majestic Northwest, Hoa Binh has unparalleled aquatic potential with the vast Hoa Binh hydroelectric lake, stretching over 8,892 hectares. Hoa Binh has recognized this potential and issued many support policies, creating a turning point for the fish cage farming industry on the lake.
Today, Hoa Binh has become one of the top five provinces in the country in developing reservoir aquaculture. The number of fish cages/rafts has skyrocketed from 1,700 to nearly 5,000, marking the remarkable development of the industry.
Not only in quantity, the quality of Hoa Binh seafood products has also been significantly improved. Enterprises and cooperatives have invested in modern cage and raft systems, applied advanced techniques, and strictly followed organic and VietGAP standards. Thanks to that, Hoa Binh seafood products are always fresh and delicious, ensuring food hygiene and safety.
Some aquaculture products grown on Hoa Binh Lake have been recognized as 4-star OCOP products. In 2018, the brands "Da River Fish - Hoa Binh" and "Da River Shrimp - Hoa Binh" were officially granted trademark certificates by the Department of Intellectual Property, affirming the superior quality and reputation of this special product.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in Da Bac, Da Giang ECO Cooperative is a pioneer in the movement of raising clean fish according to VietGAP standards. The cooperative's black carp, black catfish, and Da River catfish products have achieved 3-star OCOP. Not stopping there, the cooperative has also continuously created specialized processed products such as dried black carp with mac khen, fried Da River goby, and "Da River ferryman" braised fish, bringing diversity to consumers' menus.
In recent times, the province has implemented a variety of promotional and trade promotion activities for Da River fish and shrimp products. Notably, the first Da River Fish and Shrimp Festival in Hoa Binh Province in 2023 was successfully organized. In order to build and develop the Da River fish and shrimp brand, on June 5, 2024, the Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 966/QD-UBND approving the Project on developing aquaculture in Hoa Binh Hydropower Reservoir associated with tourism until 2030. The project has identified specific goals until 2030, such as: building 8 concentrated cage aquaculture areas associated with tours, routes, and tourist spots in the Hoa Binh Lake area; 10,000 cages, aquaculture production value reaching 500 billion VND/year; 80% of cage fish farming facilities apply good aquaculture production processes (VietGAP) or equivalent.
Comrade Luong Thanh Hai, Head of the provincial Department of Fisheries, emphasized that the Project is a legal basis and strategic orientation for managing, developing and exploiting the potential and advantages of aquatic products in Hoa Binh reservoir until 2030. The province identifies tourism as the "driver" to enhance the value of the Da River shrimp and fish brand. Hoa Binh hopes that tourism will go first, pave the way and will be the locomotive to develop aquatic products, while tourism is also a distribution and consumption channel for products. Tourists will be consumers of Da River shrimp and fish. The province's long-term and sustainable orientation is to exploit the brand value of Da River shrimp and fish, not just produce Da River aquatic products.
Because tourism is identified as a lever to promote and enhance the value of the Da River shrimp and fish brand, Da River fish and shrimp festivals will be held regularly, providing opportunities for local people to introduce their products and attract tourists to Hoa Binh.
Hoa Binh province believes that, with its available potential and determination to develop, aquaculture will continue to take off, becoming a key economic sector of the province, bringing economic benefits and contributing to environmental protection, creating a rich and prosperous Hoa Binh.
