Ho Chi Minh City Coach Vu Tien Thanh was frustrated because the defense made many mistakes when Ho Chi Minh City Club lost 3-5 to Hanoi Police in round 8 of V-League 2023.
"Very disappointing," Coach Vu Tien Thanh exclaimed in the press conference after his team's defeat. "The first two goals came very quickly, I didn't think the defense was that bad. But I also have to praise the home players. Even though they lost early, they didn't give up and still tried to come back and score three goals."

Receiving Hanoi Police, who were in good form with a four-match unbeaten streak, including two wins in the last two matches, Ho Chi Minh City FC quickly collapsed when they conceded two early goals in the second and eighth minutes. The subsequent efforts helped the home team score three goals, and right after each of their goals, Hanoi Police raised the score to 3-1, 4-2 and then 5-3.
"The team lost, but the bright spot is that the players played well to try to turn the game around," coach Vu Tien Thanh added. "In the match, if we play defensively and counterattack, it's easier, but when we lose, the team will be under pressure and will have to push up to find an equalizer, which will expose many loopholes."
However, this coach also admitted that Ho Chi Minh City's defense is very unstable, when the team conceded 10 goals in the last two matches. Before losing to Cong An Ha Noi today, coach Vu Tien Thanh and his team also lost 3-5 to Thanh Hoa in round 7.
Due to a shortage of players, coach Vu Tien Thanh had to pair up central defenders Tang Tien and Jonathan Campbell against Hanoi Police. But both players played poorly. "The performance of the two central defenders is not good. Campbell has just been off for two weeks and has just returned, so his performance is unstable and he has made many mistakes," said Mr. Thanh.
Losing to Cong An Ha Noi was the fourth loss in five home matches this season for Ho Chi Minh City FC. The only draw at Thong Nhat Stadium was a 1-1 draw against Binh Dinh. In contrast, Ho Chi Minh City beat Binh Duong 2-1 away.
"From previous seasons to this season, Ho Chi Minh City has always earned better points away from home than at home. Now, every match is difficult, but I believe Ho Chi Minh City will successfully stay in the league," said coach Vu Tien Thanh.
In round nine, Ho Chi Minh City will visit Ha Tinh on May 27.
