Coach Eddie Howe is worried that sporting director Dan Ashworth will take Newcastle's transfer secrets with him if he joins Man Utd.

Recently, the British press reported that Man Utd is preparing to take over sporting director Ashworth from Newcastle. The "Red Devils" are likely to make an official offer early next week and are willing to pay $13 million in compensation.

Asked on February 16 whether he was worried about Ashworth leaking Newcastle's summer transfer plans to Man Utd, Howe replied: "Yes, and that's why I said he's in a position of power. He has a lot of information and intelligence. It's a bit of an unusual situation. Some boundaries have to be drawn, but that's not my decision. I don't control that."

Howe was also unsure about Ashworth's presence in the stands at St James' Park for the match against Bournemouth on February 17, and deferred the question to his superiors.

Regarding Ashworth's position, Howe believes the club has the resources to find a replacement. He also confirmed that the club has prepared for every position, from players, coaches to directors. "The board has a strategy and they have executed it very well," Howe added.

Before taking charge of Newcastle's transfer business in February 2022, Ashworth worked for Brighton, the Football Association and West Brom. The 52-year-old sporting director bought many players for Brighton who later became stars such as Alexis Mac Allister, Marc Cucurella, Moises Caicedo, Kaoru Mitoma and Evan Ferguson.

According to the Daily Mail , Ashworth agreed to move to Man Utd partly because of his close relationship with Sir Dave Braisford, the sporting director of INEOS, the group that is about to complete the purchase of 25% of the "Red Devils". INEOS prioritizes improving the transfer process, which has been Man Utd's biggest problem for the past 10 years.
