Coach Hoang Anh Gia Lai: My Dinh Stadium's bad surface caused Ly Duc's injury

The 0-2 loss to The Cong - Viettel not only eliminated HAGL from the 2024 - 2025 National Cup but also caused the mountain town team to suffer a loss of personnel, when central defender Pham Ly Duc suffered a serious knee injury and had to take a long-term leave of absence.

According to head coach Le Quang Trai, the bad condition of the field was the reason why Ly Duc had the accident.

"The bad My Dinh pitch is the reason why Ly Duc and Dinh Lam were injured. Lam only had a slight pain, but Duc was seriously injured. I just got a report from the doctors. Obviously it was just a normal tackle on the pitch, but landing on the bad pitch caused Ly Duc to be seriously injured," coach Le Quang Trai shared at the press conference after the match.

Ly Duc left the field in the 87th minute with a severely injured left knee. When he came out, he could not stand normally and had to be carried and supported. In the next few days, Duc will be taken for an MRI to determine the details of the injury (most likely related to the ligament).

This is a loss not only for HAGL but also for U23 Vietnam when Germany is considered a potential name for the 2026 U23 Asian qualifiers and 2025 SEA Games.

On the side of The Cong - Viettel, head coach Nguyen Duc Thang also shares the same opinion with his colleague Le Quang Trai about the condition of My Dinh stadium.

"After the events, the My Dinh stadium today was really bad, affecting both teams. Because the stadium was bad, we had to change our tactics. Controlling the ball on the rough pitch was really difficult," said Mr. Thang.

The captain of The Cong - Viettel refused to share more information about the plan to play on which field in the near future. "Why do we have to change the field?", Mr. Thang asked the reporter back.

According to Tuoi Tre Online , The Cong - Viettel's contract to rent My Dinh Stadium is valid until the end of this season. The team has registered with the organizing committee of Vietnam's professional tournaments to choose My Dinh Stadium as their home stadium since the beginning of this season. However, the poor quality of My Dinh Stadium is a big challenge for the home team and the away teams coming here to play.
