Two biological sisters, Doan Hoang Tra My, a 4th grader, and Doan Viet Son, a 3rd grader, at Trieu Long Primary and Secondary School, are orphans and currently live with their grandmother, who is over 80 years old and unable to work. In the face of the three grandmothers and grandchildren's situation, the Women's Union of Trieu Long Commune actively called for and mobilized many kind-hearted people and local political and social organizations to care, share, encourage, support their study expenses and help them have conditions to cover their living expenses. In particular, the two children are sponsored with an amount of 2.4 million VND/year/child.

Timely care and sharing in material and spiritual terms helps My and Son have the motivation to rise up in life. Tra My shared: "My sister and I are grateful to the benefactors who have helped us in the past, we promise to strive to study well to become useful people for society in the future". Or the case of Ms. Vo Thi Bich's family, a poor household in the commune. There is little land for production, she herself is often sick, the economy is too difficult, raising 2 children to study, so the life of the three of them is lacking first, lacking later.

Poor health, often going to the doctor, but Ms. Bich does not have a health insurance card so she has to spend a lot of money on medicine. Realizing Ms. Bich's difficult situation, the Women's Union of Trieu Long commune called for support and gave her a health insurance card worth 1.2 million VND to create conditions for her to get medical examination and treatment. "Now every time I go to a medical facility for a check-up, I feel more secure because I have a health insurance card. This is a valuable gift for me. I thank the Women's Union of Trieu Long and the benefactors very much," Ms. Bich said emotionally.

The Women's Union of Trieu Long Commune is a typical unit in Trieu Phong District in implementing the "Godmother" Program launched by the Vietnam Women's Union. In order to effectively and sustainably implement the program and create a strong spread of the program in conjunction with the implementation of the Government's Project 938 on "Propaganda, education, and support for women to participate in solving social issues", every year, the Women's Union of Trieu Long Commune directs its branches to review and make a list of orphans and their needs for help.

Actively coordinate with relevant agencies to verify information of orphans, send the list to the commune for synthesis, and on the basis of the reviewed list, proactively connect with charitable organizations and individuals to mobilize sponsorship of children; develop plans and organize support implementation in accordance with local practical conditions.

In the 3 years from 2022 - 2024, the association has connected and called for support for the "Godmother" Program for 21 orphans with an amount of over 50 million VND, including 2 children who are orphans of both parents, 19 children who are orphans of either mother or father, each child is supported with 2.4 million VND/year, and 40 health insurance cards are given to 40 women in difficult circumstances, each card is worth from 900 thousand VND - 1.2 million VND. In addition to supporting living expenses, every month, the association assigns cadres and members (godmothers) to visit, encourage, and give living expenses, essential items, school supplies, etc. to the children.

Not only taking care of material things, the Women's Union of Trieu Long commune also pays special attention to the spiritual aspect of orphans and children in difficult circumstances in the locality. Regularly coordinating with functional departments and localities to organize cultural and artistic activities, life skills classes, folk games, visiting and giving gifts to encourage children on the occasion of International Children's Day June 1, summer, Mid-Autumn Festival, Vietnamese Family Day June 28; opening of the new school year... Thereby, creating a healthy and safe environment for children to play, entertain, and prevent social evils.

The program “Godmother” for orphans, providing health insurance cards to women with difficult family circumstances of the Women's Union of Trieu Long commune demonstrates the spirit of mutual love, mutual support, and encouragement to help orphans have a foothold in studying, developing, and becoming useful citizens for society; contributing to reducing the financial burden for members' families and women when they are sick or ill.

“With the motto of not leaving any orphans or poor women behind, in the coming time, the association will continue to call on individuals, organizations and businesses to have many suitable activities, close to the needs of orphans. Support poor women to stabilize their lives.

Thereby, contributing to spreading the program more and more widely, attracting the cooperation of the whole society in supporting and encouraging orphans and women in difficult circumstances in terms of material and spiritual aspects", said the President of the Women's Union of Trieu Long Commune, Ngo Gia Linh.
