This is the largest blood donation program every spring, imbued with the spirit of humanity and love for humanity. This year, the event takes place over 9 days (from February 8 to 16) at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion and fixed blood donation points, expected to receive at least 8,000 units of blood.
First held in 2008 to overcome the blood shortage after Tet, since 2010, the Red Spring Festival has been directed by the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation (HMTN) to be organized nationwide in the campaign "Promoting voluntary blood donation during Tet - Red Spring Festival". Through 17 editions, the Red Spring Festival has attracted hundreds of thousands of participants and blood donors from all over the country, in the capital Hanoi alone, hosted by the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, nearly 120,000 units of blood have been received.
Speaking at the ceremony, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Ha Thanh, Director of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, shared: “We can be proud that the Red Spring Festival is not simply a blood donation activity, but also a vivid picture of love, where each drop of donated blood carries a story, a hope. This is where we can feel the power of humanity, the connection between people, between hearts that beat together.”
Appreciating the humanistic values, solidarity spirit and positive results from the Red Spring Festival, President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, Deputy Head of the National Steering Committee for Blood Donation Campaign Bui Thi Hoa emphasized: “The Red Spring Festival not only attracts the participation of tens of thousands of people every year, but also contributes to creating deep impressions of the spirit of mutual love of the Vietnamese people. In the early days of spring, with cold weather, the Red Spring Festival has brought warm, warm humanity that we together participate in a noble action - donating blood to save people in a meaningful way; clearly demonstrating the spirit of “spring of love” that every citizen can contribute”.
Having persistently accompanied and coordinated the organization throughout the 18 Red Spring Festivals, Mr. Trinh Xuan Thuy, Chairman of the Hanoi Youth Blood Donation Association, shared: “Generations of cadres and members of the Association have always strived to overcome all difficulties and challenges to create the success of the Red Spring Festivals, contributing to the development of blood donation activities in the capital and the whole country in general. To prepare for the 9 main festival days this year, hundreds of volunteers of the Association have promoted at many locations and created a strong communication campaign on social networks.”
Along with voluntary blood donation activities, the 2025 Spring Festival also has many interesting activities such as: double blood donation, pairing blood donors, meeting the families of typical blood donation leaders...
In addition to the Pink Spring Festival, the series of "White Blouse - Pink Heart" festivals held at many hospitals in February 2025, in response to the 70th anniversary of Vietnamese Doctors' Day, will also contribute to ensuring blood demand for emergency and treatment after Tet.
In just 3 days (from February 8 to 10), before the official opening, despite the cold weather, the Red Spring Festival received nearly 3,000 units of blood and witnessed beautiful stories about family love, friendship and the shared act of donating blood to save lives.
Previously, during the 9-day Lunar New Year holiday from January 25 to February 2 (December 26 to the 5th day of the Lunar New Year), the blood donation point at the Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion remained open and welcomed 2,019 people to the Institute to donate blood and platelets (including 1,390 blood donors and 629 platelet donors). In particular, hundreds of medical staff of the Institute proactively donated blood during their shifts during and after Tet.
