The National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion and the Hanoi Youth Blood Donation Association have just opened the 18th Red Spring Festival blood donation event, with the program expected to collect 8,000 units of blood, contributing to the blood bank after Tet to treat and provide emergency care for patients in Hanoi and many provinces and cities across the country.

In just 3 days (February 8-10), before the official opening, despite the cold weather, the Red Spring Festival received nearly 3,000 units of blood and witnessed beautiful stories of family love, friendship and the shared act of donating blood to save lives.

Present at the blood donation site of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, two young people, Pham Tuan Anh and Vu Thu Hong, had beautiful memories together. Tuan Anh said: "Going out to eat, go out or go to the movies together, that is also happiness. But when we donate blood together to share life with the sick, the happiness is doubled. At the same time, we also have more beautiful memories and understand each other better."

Sharing about the first time she donated blood, Nguyen Ngoc Dan said that donating blood was a very new activity for her. Taking a drop of blood out of her body, she thought it would affect her health, but when the volunteers promoted and explained, Ngoc Dan found that donating blood was even beneficial to her own health.

First held in 2008 to overcome the blood shortage after Tet, since 2010, the Red Spring Festival has been directed by the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation (HMTN) to be organized nationwide in the campaign "Voluntary Blood Donation Campaign on Tet - Red Spring Festival". Through 17 editions, the Red Spring Festival has attracted hundreds of thousands of participants and blood donors from all over the country, in the capital Hanoi alone, hosted by the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, nearly 120,000 units of blood have been received.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Ha Thanh, Director of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, shared: "We can be proud that the Red Spring Festival is not simply a blood donation activity, but also a vivid picture of love, where each drop of donated blood carries a story, a hope. This is where we can feel the power of humanity, the connection between people, between hearts that beat together."

Along with voluntary blood donation activities, the 2025 Spring Festival also has many interesting activities such as: double blood donation, pairing blood donors, meeting the families of typical blood donation leaders...; Blood donors will also receive many interesting gifts from the sponsoring unit.

Previously, during the 9-day Lunar New Year holiday from January 25 to February 2 (December 26 to the 5th day of the Lunar New Year), the blood donation point at the Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion remained open and welcomed 2,019 people to the hospital to donate blood and platelets (including 1,390 blood donors and 629 platelet donors). Notably, hundreds of medical staff at the hospital proactively donated blood during and after Tet.

In addition to the Pink Spring Festival, the "White Blouse - Pink Heart" festival series held at many hospitals in February 2025, in response to the 70th anniversary of Vietnamese Doctors' Day, will also contribute to ensuring blood demand for emergency and treatment after Tet.
