Currently, along with investment solutions and port capacity enhancement, Thanh Hoa province is promoting the call for shipping lines and enterprises to move to provide import and export services, bringing Nghi Son Port to operate vibrantly commensurate with its potential.

Since the end of 2023, the French shipping company CMA-CGM has returned and operated regularly with a frequency of 1 trip/week at Nghi Son International Port. Since January 2023, this shipping company has carried out 54 cargo voyages, with 9,369 export containers and 5,352 import containers. The opening of a container shipping route via Nghi Son Port by CMA-CGM after a long period of international trade being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic has attracted the attention of many domestic and international shipping companies, with the expectation of increasing the province's budget revenue in the coming years.

It is known that CMA-CGM Group, established in 1978, is the 4th largest container shipping group in the world and currently the 1st in France, with more than 110,000 employees in 755 offices, 750 logistics centers in more than 160 countries, more than 285 shipping routes serving 420 ports out of 521 ports worldwide; along with a logistics chain providing road, inland waterway, rail and logistics services, capable of meeting the requirements of customers worldwide. The choice of Nghi Son Port as a stopover for international transport service investment has demonstrated the attractiveness and opened up many new potentials and development opportunities for this seaport.

During a recent working trip to Thanh Hoa province, expressing her impression of the development of Nghi Son Port as well as Thanh Hoa province, Ms. Esra Bora, General Director of CMA-CGM Vietnam Joint Stock Company, also said: “CMA-CGM Group considers Nghi Son Port not only as a potential but also a strategy. We will learn more about the structure of export and import goods; discuss the potential and room for diversification of goods such as garments, leather shoes, seafood, steel... to open more shipping routes, bringing more choices to customers”.

Along with CMA-CGM shipping line, from December 2022 Nghi Son Port also welcomed VIMC Shipping Company to operate the transport route. Notably, from November 2023, another service operator, Hai An Agency and Logistics Company Limited, opened a domestic container transport route to and from domestic ports. In 2023, the company carried out 2 trips and in the first quarter of this year, it carried out 12 domestic container transport trips via Nghi Son Port. This unit is also planning to open an international container transport route in the near future.

According to data from the Management Board of Nghi Son Economic Zone and the province's Industrial Parks, since implementing the policy from Resolution No. 248/2022/HDND on policies to support international and domestic sea transport vehicles, supporting businesses transporting goods by container through Nghi Son Port, the board has completed documents and provided financial support of more than 17 billion VND; of which supporting ships with 2.5 billion VND and supporting businesses to import and export by container with 14.6 billion VND.

The representative of the Management Board of Nghi Son Economic Zone and the provincial Industrial Parks said: In order to continue to attract and stimulate import and export activities through the port, the Board will regularly support and provide information related to import and export activities of enterprises in Nghi Son Economic Zone and the Industrial Parks to investors, shipping lines and enterprises to learn about international containerized cargo transportation through Nghi Son Port. At the same time, support the connection between shipping lines and enterprises in finding sources of containerized import and export goods at enterprises in Thanh Hoa and neighboring areas. Administrative procedures for benefiting from the policy are also shortened and simplified, creating the most favorable conditions for enterprises to access the policy according to the provisions of Resolution No. 248/2022/NQ-HDND dated July 13, 2022 of the Provincial People's Council.

It is known that, together with the Management Board of Nghi Son Economic Zone and Industrial Parks, Nghi Son Port Customs Branch also regularly supports and provides information related to import and export activities in the province to investors, shipping lines and enterprises looking to learn about international container transportation through Nghi Son seaport. In addition, the unit focuses on supporting the law on customs activities and customs clearance for import and export enterprises; reforming administrative procedures in a convenient and simple manner and creating all favorable conditions for import and export activities of enterprises.
