Passion and entrepreneurship with coffee
Businessman Truong Cong Toan is currently the Director of Toan Hang Private Enterprise, located in Nhan Co Commune, Dak R'lap District, Dak Nong.

One early autumn morning, when meeting us at the OCOP product display and introduction store, Mr. Toan happily shared about his entrepreneurial journey.
"I was born and raised in Dak R'lap, so I have a deep affection for coffee trees. After finishing high school, I returned to work on the farm with my family. In my twenties, my family and I started digging, hoeing and planting coffee. With meticulous care, the coffee garden grew greener and greener and I became more and more passionate about this crop."

Mr. Toan is now 56 years old and his hair is turning grey, but the memories of his youth and love for coffee trees are still fresh in his mind.
Mr. Toan shared: "You must have passion to be able to stick with it for a long time!"
According to Mr. Toan, he initially worked with his family, then accumulated and expanded his business. He started his business in 1994 as a sole proprietorship. In 2005, he established a business called Toan Hang Private Enterprise.
After 40 years of working with coffee beans, Mr. Toan has achieved many successes in this field. Currently, Toan Hang Private Enterprise is collaborating with farmers in Dak R'lap, Tuy Duc districts and Gia Nghia City to produce coffee on an area of 2,000 hectares with sustainable coffee certification.

In particular, in 2022, the roasted ground coffee product of Toan Hang Private Enterprise was honored to be certified by the People's Committee of Dak Nong province as a typical rural industrial product.
Building OCOP products
During the conversation, Mr. Toan expressed his joy when sharing that, in July 2021, Toan Hang natural coffee products were recognized as achieving 3-star OCOP.
He said that OCOP products are increasingly known by the market and widely distributed to many provinces and cities, especially Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Consumers often buy the product for personal use, as gifts or for business and all praise its stable flavor, good quality, and mild aroma.
"To achieve this flavor, in addition to strict production to have pure robusta coffee beans, we also add a proportion of arabica coffee," Mr. Toan shared.
Toan Hang natural coffee has undergone a rigorous evaluation process by the Dak Nong OCOP Product Evaluation Council. The product's raw materials are produced from an area of 10 hectares of coffee grown according to organic standards.
According to Mr. Toan, to meet sustainable coffee standards, farmers must limit the use of chemical fertilizers and apply environmental protection measures. Therefore, coffee output is lower than conventional production but product quality is higher.
The process of producing natural coffee is very strict. The input material must be 100% ripe coffee beans. After picking, the coffee beans are dried whole in a greenhouse for 15-20 days to infuse the aroma.

This helps the coffee retain its original aroma. The coffee tastes a bit bitter when used but then becomes sweet, creating a very pleasant feeling.
The initial success of Toan Hang OCOP natural coffee cannot be mentioned without the companionship of more than 1,000 farmers. Mr. Dao Vu, one of the long-term partners of Toan Hang Private Enterprise, said that he has been associated with the company since he was young and has been with the company for 27 years. Although the value of many other crops is higher, coffee still brings a stable life to his family. Currently, his family has 2,000 coffee trees, harvesting about 7 tons of beans each year. Thanks to OCOP coffee, his family's economy is stable and his house is increasingly spacious.
Despite his successes, Mr. Toan is also concerned about the coffee production situation. According to Mr. Toan, the current coffee price fluctuates strongly and is not stable.

"Although our OCOP coffee has a much higher value than regular coffee, the output is still difficult. This makes the profits of farmers and businesses not guaranteed," Mr. Toan shared.
Businessman Truong Cong Toan is one of the pioneers in exporting Dak Nong coffee to the world. Every year, Toan Hang Private Enterprise supplies about 20,000 tons of coffee to domestic corporations and exports about 3,000 tons.

"Since 2016, we have started exporting coffee directly to Germany, then the UK and the Netherlands. We are promoting cooperation to produce high-quality coffee, writing a beautiful story about Vietnamese coffee in the international market," Mr. Toan shared.
With a long-term strategy, businessman Truong Cong Toan believes that OCOP products will be more clearly recognized by the market. He hopes to continue expanding the area, increasing output and achieving a 4-star coffee product to boost exports.

Saying goodbye to a businessman who is passionate about Dak Nong and natural coffee beans, we hope he will continue to research, contribute and contribute to affirming the position of Dak Nong coffee in particular and Vietnam in general in the international market.
