Surprised to know the cause of infertility
In June 2012, primary school teacher Bui Thi Giang married Tran Van Thien, an ocean sailor. Happiness seemed complete, but the couple still had no good news.
Due to the nature of his work, Mr. Thien was often away from home, leaving Ms. Giang both anxious and lonely. After months of waiting without any good news, the couple began their journey to find a child using both Eastern and Western medicine.
In 2013, after going to the hospital for a reproductive health check, the results shocked both of them. Mr. Thien was diagnosed with male infertility, due to complications from mumps as a child.
The only method that could help them realize their dream of parenthood was in vitro fertilization (IVF), a technique that was very expensive at that time.
With a contract teacher salary of only 2 million VND/month, the couple did not have enough financial means to immediately proceed with IVF. Ms. Giang decided to temporarily put aside treatment, focus on economic development, and work while saving hope for a brighter tomorrow.
"There were times when I heard people gossiping that this family could not have children. But I pushed it all aside and told myself to be strong to move forward with my husband," Giang confided.
In 2015, after nearly a year of Mr. Thien being away from home, the couple decided to try again to find a child. But their small hope was shattered after two failed embryo transfers. "Every time I took a pregnancy test and it showed only one line, my heart ached," she said.
Sweet fruit for a lasting journey
Despite the failure, Ms. Giang never gave up. She assured her husband: "No matter how much pain I have, I can endure it, as long as I have a child. I will never give up."
In 2017, Ms. Giang's journey to find a child continued. She and her husband went to the Hanoi Andrology and Infertility Hospital and decided to do IVF again. This time, psychological comfort and the appropriate treatment regimen brought unexpected results, she created 9 embryos on day 5.
After the second frozen embryo transfer, Ms. Giang received good news. At the end of 2017, the first little angel, baby Tran Cat Thien An, cried out at birth, ending a 7-year journey filled with tears and longing.
Not stopping there, in 2020 she continued to transfer the remaining frozen embryos and welcomed two more twin girls, Tran Cat Thien Di and Tran Cat Thien An.
"Thanks to the perseverance of the couple, their love and the advancement of modern medicine, the tiny embryos as small as grains of sand have turned into "angels" for their family.
"Infertile families who are looking forward to their children should stay strong. No matter how difficult or harsh the situation is, always have faith and think that your baby is still waiting for you somewhere, it's just that he's a little late," Ms. Giang advised.
