(NLDO) - Reporters of the Lao Dong Newspaper have spent many days observing and recording the situation of street vendors soliciting and harassing tourists in the center of Ho Chi Minh City.
According to records, in the areas around Ben Thanh Market, Thong Nhat Hall, Ho Chi Minh City Post Office, War Remnants Museum, the area in front of Takashimaya and Saigon Square shopping malls, the situation of street vendors soliciting tourists, especially international tourists, is increasing.
Tourists are often followed by groups of street vendors and shoe shiners who offer them excessive offers. They follow tourists from the moment they get off the bus to the tourist attractions, and do not hesitate to offer them even if they are refused.
Many tourists expressed their embarrassment, shaking their heads once or twice, but were still followed to be offered glasses, hats, souvenirs or shoe shines... This behavior not only caused inconvenience but many tourists shared their feelings of anxiety when being followed too much.
These images are tarnishing Ho Chi Minh City tourism in the eyes of international friends, not only affecting the tourist experience but also creating bad impressions, reducing the attractiveness of the city's tourism.
In an effort to build diverse and attractive tourism products, and to develop products that enhance the experience for tourists, the tourism industry in Ho Chi Minh City needs to have a fundamental and systematic solution to handle or minimize the above situation, helping tourists have a space to experience culture, cuisine, and a modern and civilized atmosphere in the most vibrant city in the country.
