On the morning of March 29, to celebrate the 48th anniversary of Da Nang City Liberation Day (March 29, 1975), the 64th anniversary of Uncle Ho's visit to the fishing village and encouraged fishermen to go offshore, exploit seafood and protect the sovereignty of the Fatherland, the People's Committee of Nai Hien Dong Ward (Son Tra District, Da Nang City) organized the traditional boat racing tournament in 2023.
From early morning, thousands of people and tourists flocked to the east bank of the Han River (at the foot of Thuan Phuoc Bridge) as well as above Thuan Phuoc Bridge to watch the official teams compete.
This year's race includes 10 racing teams, traditional racing boats, the number of athletes is no more than 17 people/boat...
The 10 teams participating in the tournament competed in two categories, including a friendly tournament and an official tournament. The friendly tournament will have 4 double laps (equivalent to 7,000m) and the official tournament will have 6 double laps (equivalent to 10,000m).
Right from the start of the friendly tournament, 10 boat teams entered the race with the highest spirit. The race became more exciting when thousands of people gathered on Thuan Phuoc bridge and on the east bank of Han river, cheering and encouraging.
With their experience and efforts, the Bai Boi team (from Duy Vinh commune, Duy Xuyen district, Quang Nam) has affirmed their bravery when they came first in the friendly tournament as well as the official tournament. The second and third places in both stages respectively belonged to the Hong Son team (Duy Xuyen district, Quang Nam) and the Nai Hien Dong team (Son Tra district, Da Nang city).
According to Mr. Cao Dinh Hai, Chairman of the People's Committee of Nai Hien Dong Ward, in the minds of people who go to the river and sea in general and fishermen of Nai Hien Dong Ward in particular, boat racing is an activity closely associated with and carrying the essence of the fishing and harvest praying festival, as an offering to the gods and ancestors to pray for favorable weather and also to show gratitude and respect for the generosity of the sea for fishermen to have a bountiful harvest and full holds of fish and shrimp.
Through organizing this traditional boat race, the locality hopes to further promote the movement of the whole population exercising following the example of great Uncle Ho, creating a healthy playground, uniting and helping each other, encouraging and motivating fishermen to go offshore.
