Chinese airline opens flight route to Hanoi

At 3:30 p.m. on December 8, Sichuan Airlines flight 3U3905 departing from Chengdu City (China) landed safely at Noi Bai International Airport, officially inaugurating the regular round-trip commercial international flight route Chengdu - Hanoi. The event marked the development of the international flight network between the two countries.

The Chengdu - Hanoi route is operated by Sichuan Airlines with a frequency of 1 round trip flight per day, using Airbus A320/A321 aircraft, flight time is about 2 hours and 10 minutes. Currently, the Chengdu - Hanoi route is only operated by this airline.

Sichuan Airlines is an airline headquartered in Chengdu, Sichuan Province (China). The airline has a flight network covering the domestic market of China and international routes to regions: Asia, North America and Oceania.

This is the third international airline in 2023 to open a new regular flight route to Hanoi (previously there were Starlux Airlines and Xiamen Airlines), marking the capital Hanoi continuing to be one of the attractive destinations for international airlines. With the opening of the new route, Sichuan Airlines is one of 6 airlines with flights connecting Hanoi with China.

Promote tourism with China

Mr. Zhang Chang Heng, Chief Representative of Sichuan Airlines, said that Hanoi is the cultural, economic and political center of Vietnam. The capital city of Hanoi has a long history, and people from Chengdu, Sichuan Province (China) really want to visit, enjoy the cuisine and cultural exchange with Vietnamese people.

Having a direct flight to Chengdu will help tourists from Vietnam easily take tours to visit the paradise on earth Jiuzhaigou, the wonder of Zhangjiajie and enjoy the famous cuisine of Sichuan... This is the reason Sichuan Airlines chose to open a direct flight from Chengdu to Hanoi.

Deputy Director of Noi Bai International Airport Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan assessed that the opening of this flight route will facilitate trade and travel between the two provinces and cities of Vietnam and China, thereby contributing to promoting tourism and economy between the two localities.

According to statistics, the international air transport output to/from Noi Bai airport averages about 500 flights, 76 thousand passengers per day. It is expected that during the Lunar New Year, there will be about 560 flights, 98 thousand passengers per day going to/from Noi Bai airport. Exploiting this new flight route promises to increase the number of international passengers passing through the airport in the near future.

5 flights to Australia

On the same day, December 8, Vietnam Airlines launched a direct flight from Perth (Australia) to Ho Chi Minh City with flight number VN790 carrying more than 300 passengers departing at 00:50. This is the third city in Australia that Vietnam Airlines operates flights to, after Sydney and Melbourne.

Previously, flight VN791 carrying nearly 200 passengers from Tan Son Nhat Airport (HCMC) landed in Perth at 10:50 p.m. on December 7.

Vietnam Airlines operates flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Perth with a frequency of 3 flights/week.

Perth is the capital of Western Australia, one of Australia's most important economic engines, with about 300,000 Vietnamese and Vietnamese-origin people living and working here. Before the pandemic, Vietnam was Perth's 10th largest international tourist market and the second largest market without direct flights from Perth. Meanwhile, Perth is the third largest market in Australia for Vietnam.

With this new route, Vietnam Airlines is operating 23 round-trip flights per week between Vietnam and Australia, equivalent to an average of 3 flights per day. The total number of Vietnam Airlines flights to Australia has been increased to 5, including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City - Melbourne; Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City - Sydney and Ho Chi Minh City - Perth. All routes are operated by modern wide-body aircraft Airbus A350 or Boeing 787.
