With a favorable geographical location as well as holding many economic development opportunities, Ham Tan will take advantage and focus resources to effectively exploit the potentials and advantages of the district...
Only about 50 km from Phan Thiet City, Ham Tan is geographically adjacent to Xuan Loc (Dong Nai) and Xuyen Moc (Ba Ria - Vung Tau), so it is convenient for trading with neighboring provinces. In addition, the traffic system passing through Ham Tan includes national highways (1A, 55), Dau Giay - Phan Thiet expressway... considered the gateway to the southwest of Binh Thuan province connecting with the key economic region in the South. In addition, Ham Tan also owns a 22 km long coastline, an agricultural land area of nearly 50,000 hectares (of which production land is about 43,530 hectares) and an irrigation system that has been invested in to create favorable conditions for production. That is also the potential and advantage to help promote the development of the "smokeless industry", forming specialized fruit growing areas in the district.
In particular, in Ham Tan, there are 3 industrial park (IP) projects approved by the Prime Minister to be included in the planning, including: Son My I IP has started construction, Tan Duc IP is in the investment preparation stage, Son My II IP is currently completing documents to submit to competent authorities for approval of investment policy. In addition, in the district, there is also the Son My LNG Port Warehouse project (estimated total investment capital of up to tens of thousands of billion VND) which is also speeding up the approval of investment policy. With a series of large-scale IP projects and investment attraction of industrial clusters, Ham Tan is fully capable of becoming the largest industrial center of Binh Thuan province in the near future.
However, in addition to the achieved results, the reality shows that the current economic picture of Ham Tan is still not as bright as expected. Talking about the difficulties and limitations, local leaders also admitted that in the past, the implementation of investment in industrial cluster infrastructure or compensation and clearance of some projects has been slow. For tourism projects registered for investment in the area, most have not had any impact, the budget revenue in the first 5 months of 2023 is estimated to reach only over 130 billion VND (equal to 57% compared to the same period last year)...
Recently, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Doan Anh Dung visited and worked in Ham Tan and acknowledged the efforts of the district in the context of the general economic difficulties. Through this, he requested the locality to focus on carefully analyzing the causes, clearly identifying responsibilities and proposing timely solutions to overcome shortcomings and limitations in the coming time. Such as proactively coordinating with departments and branches to support and urge investors to speed up the implementation of industrial investment projects (especially in site clearance), thereby creating development momentum for the district and the province.
The provincial leaders also suggested that in the agricultural sector, it is necessary to strongly shift the mindset from agricultural production to agricultural economic development, from traditional production focusing on output to processing production, providing quality, clean, safe agricultural services with high economic value associated with market development. Therefore, the locality promptly reviewed and re-evaluated the conditions of land, water resources, and climate to orient and restructure the development of suitable crops and livestock with consumption markets and competitiveness. In particular, focusing on building specialized areas for fruit trees and advantageous industrial trees with high economic value, suitable for the conditions of the district such as: longan, tangerine, dragon fruit, cashew, rubber, etc. In the tourism sector, proactively work with investors of slow-to-implement projects, actively coordinate to resolve difficulties and obstacles to speed up the implementation progress, especially in cases where there is a clean land.
With many potentials and advantages, Ham Tan will take advantage of the opportunity to strive to develop the district's economy (focusing on 3 areas: industry, tourism, agriculture) in a breakthrough way...
