Hai Phong: Rally in response to World Oceans Day, Vietnam Sea and Islands Week

On the morning of June 4, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Hai Phong coordinated with the People's Committee of Do Son district to organize a rally in response to World Oceans Day and Vietnam Sea and Islands Week.

To raise public and management awareness of the important role of the seas and oceans in people's daily lives, in 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), the Canadian Government proposed the World Oceans Day initiative and since 2009. After being officially selected by the United Nations General Assembly, June 8 of each year is celebrated worldwide as World Oceans Day.

Vietnam Sea and Islands Week is held from June 1 to 8 every year. This is an opportunity for Vietnam to affirm its great potential in the marine economy, demonstrate its determination to comprehensively develop the marine industry, and protect the marine and island environment and resources sustainably. At the same time, by promoting specific action programs, important goals in the marine economic development strategy will be realized to make our country a strong maritime nation, rich from the sea and firmly protect national sovereignty at sea.

Celebrating Vietnam Sea and Islands Week is also an opportunity to propagate and mobilize all people to raise awareness of protecting environmental resources, in order to preserve and promote the value of marine and island resources and environment, and national pride and awareness of the sovereignty of the country's seas, contributing to maintaining stability and developing the country.

Speaking at the rally, Mr. Pham Minh Thanh - Deputy Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Hai Phong requested the departments, branches, sectors, political and social organizations and local authorities in the city to propagate the Party's viewpoints and policies, the State's policies and laws, international laws on seas and islands as well as Vietnam's legitimate and legal rights and interests at sea. Propaganda on the position, role, importance of seas, islands and oceans, marine and island resources and environment and the goal of effective allocation and management, minimizing conflicts in the exploitation and use of marine space to achieve sustainable development goals for the marine economy , environmental protection and marine conservation.

Encourage and motivate the city's fishing community to raise awareness of reaching out to sea, getting rich from the sea, gradually affirming their own ability to get rich, enriching the city and contributing to affirming Vietnam's position in the region and the world. Organize the management of exploitation, sustainable use of resources and protection of the marine and island environment in the city. Turn awareness of exploitation, sustainable use of resources, protection of the marine and island environment into self-awareness and specific actions at each level, each industry, each enterprise and each citizen.

Mr. Bui Van Xung - Secretary of Do Son District Youth Union affirmed: "Do Son District Youth Union will be determined to carry out well the beach environmental sanitation program in particular and environmental protection activities in general."

Mr. Pham Minh Thanh also requested that the competent authorities must effectively implement the comprehensive and unified management of the sea and islands . Strengthen inspection, supervision, and encourage activities to exploit, use reasonably, protect and develop sustainably the sea and islands of the city. At the same time, raise awareness of the importance of the ocean to human life and health, responsibility and capacity to respond to climate change of officials, civil servants, public employees and social groups in the city.

On behalf of the People's Committee of Do Son District, Mr. Nguyen Quang Dung - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of the District called on all levels, sectors, local authorities, organizations, businesses, households and individuals to take practical actions to contribute to protecting the marine and ocean environment. Each citizen, business and organization in society will be an active and enthusiastic nucleus, playing an important role in the process of reducing environmental pollution and responding to climate change.

Authorities mobilize to clean up the marine environment

Speaking at the rally, Mr. Bui Van Xung - Secretary of the Do Son District Youth Union affirmed: "The youth of Do Son District will be determined to carry out the beach environmental sanitation campaign in particular and environmental protection activities in general. In particular, proactively advising and actively responding to environmental protection activities organized and implemented by local Party committees, authorities and Youth Union organizations.

Promote on-site propaganda activities to raise awareness of environmental protection among union members, youth and people in the district. At the same time, actively coordinate with agencies and units inside and outside the district to connect resources to organize well the programs "Volunteer Saturday ", "Green Sunday", "Let's clean the sea" to preserve the marine environment, contributing to promoting local tourism development".

Immediately after launching the rally, leaders of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Hai Phong, leaders of the People's Committee of Do Son district and cadres and youth union members organized a campaign to clean up the marine environment.
