The White House confirmed the meeting date in a statement on Friday. China's Foreign Ministry said on Friday that Xi Jinping will visit the United States from November 14 to 17, attend the APEC Summit and meet with Joe Biden.
The meeting is expected to cover global issues ranging from the Israel-Hamas war to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Taiwan, the Indo-Pacific, fentanyl, artificial intelligence, as well as “fair” economic and trade relations, according to senior Biden administration officials.
Biden is expected to say that America’s commitment to the Indo-Pacific is unwavering. A US official said Biden will also express a specific commitment to the Philippines’ security.
Joe Biden and Xi Jinping have met for hours in six meetings since Biden's inauguration in 2021. The two leaders last met in person at the G20 summit in Indonesia on November 14, 2022.
This year's APEC summit will mark Xi Jinping's first trip to the United States since April 2017, when he visited then-US President Donald Trump in Florida.
