Two SEA Games champions win overwhelmingly!

On the evening of September 3, the opening ceremony of the 2024 national kickboxing championship took place at the Gia Lai provincial sports stadium. The tournament was organized by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Gia Lai province in coordination with the Department of Sports and Physical Training, Vietnam Kickboxing Federation from September 3 to 10 at the indoor arena of the provincial sports stadium.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Gia Lai province, Head of the tournament's Organizing Committee Tran Ngoc Nhung emphasized: "The tournament is an important event for the kickboxing movement nationwide as well as in Gia Lai. This is an opportunity for athletes nationwide to compete, exchange and learn from each other, thereby helping units select outstanding factors to nurture in the future. The tournament is also an opportunity for athletes in the localities to experience and explore the unique cultural features and famous tourist destinations in Gia Lai".

According to Mr. Dam Cong Dien - in charge of boxing - kickboxing of the Department of Sports and Physical Training, the tournament is one of the activities to celebrate ASEAN Sports Day when in 2024-2025, Vietnam takes on the role of ASEAN chair for sports in the ASEAN socio-cultural community.

The award affirms Vietnam’s proactive, active and responsible participation in ASEAN, contributing to promoting connectivity, cooperation and building a better and more sustainable ASEAN community. The event also aims at the post-2025 strategic plan of the ASEAN socio-cultural community.

Le Thi Nhi won the SEA Games gold medal.

Immediately after the opening ceremony, the tournament featured exciting matches between the two SEA Games champions and their opponents. General Secretary of the Vietnam Kickboxing Federation Duong Ngoc Hai assessed that the matches between SEA Games champion Le Thi Nhi (Gia Lai) and Le Thi Ly (Binh Dinh) as well as the match between SEA Games champion Nguyen Hoang (Dak Lak) and opponent Pham Vo Son Liem (HCMC) were all very exciting. The absolute 3-0 victory belonged to both SEA Games champions.

"This truly demonstrates the athletes' strength. Through these two matches, the two SEA Games champions have demonstrated their level and class, giving the audience great matches, with beautiful play and good tactics," Mr. Duong Ngoc Hai emphasized.

Today, September 4, the qualifying matches will start from 3pm until the evening of the same day. This year's tournament brings together nearly 350 athletes from 33 delegations from provinces, cities and sectors with a strong kickboxing movement. The athletes are divided into male and female weight categories to compete in two categories, lowkick and fullcontact, in a knockout format. Each match lasts 3 rounds, each round is 2 minutes long with a 1-minute break between rounds.
