Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club has a 16-year-old Thai-Vietnamese goalkeeper

On the afternoon of April 10, Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club and LPBank Hoang Anh Gia Lai Academy officially announced the signing of a contract with 16-year-old Thai-Vietnamese goalkeeper Chaloongphum Phong.

Chaloongphum Phong was born on October 29, 2009, has a very good height (1.87m). His father is Thai and his mother is Vietnamese. Phong's mother is Nguyen Thu Ha, who was the captain of the Ho Chi Minh City basketball team from 1994 to 1998, and a Ho Chi Minh City basketball player in 1996. Thu Ha retired in 1998, got married and moved to Thailand.

According to information from Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club, Chaloongphum Phong has been practicing as a goalkeeper since he was 7 years old and has attended famous training centers in Thailand such as Suphanburi FC, Bangkok Glass FC, Nonthaburi United, Paris Saint Germain Academy Thailand...

Chaloongphum Phong has won many awards in youth tournaments & is considered by coaches as a promising goalkeeper. In addition, Phong can speak 3 languages: Vietnamese, English, Thai.

Sharing about the new contract, Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club's CEO Nguyen Tan Anh said: "This is a very promising goalkeeper. Through the relationship of Mr. Vu Tien Thanh - Technical Director of Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club and Director of LPBank Hoang Anh Gia Lai Academy, Chaloongphum Phong's mother sent him to try out at the club since October last year.

Because he was studying in Thailand, Chaloongphum Phong had to return home to arrange his studies and then returned to Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club two weeks ago to continue training. After a period of observation and testing, we decided to sign a contract with him."

In the immediate future, Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club will add Chaloongphum Phong to the U17 team to compete in the domestic tournament. Later, he will be promoted to a higher team if he proves his skills.

Technical Director of Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club, also Director of LPBank Hoang Anh Gia Lai Academy Vu Tien Thanh said that Phong's father passed away, so the family decided to return to Vietnam to live permanently.

Mr. Vu Tien Thanh commented: "Chaloongphum Phong is a potential goalkeeper. Recently, Phong returned to Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club early, so he has the ability to play for the Vietnam U17 team. Next year, I will register Phong to play in the V-League 2025-2026. If Phong develops well, he will play for the Vietnam team."

Goalkeeper has always been a lacking position of Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club and often has to buy more good goalkeepers to supplement the first team competing in V-League.

However, the mountain town team is playing very well in V-League 2024-2025 with young goalkeeper Tran Trung Kien (1m91) who graduated from LPBank Hoang Anh Gia Lai Academy.

This 22-year-old goalkeeper has been the main goalkeeper for Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club since the beginning of the season and was called up by coach Kim Sang Sik to the Vietnam team to win the 2024 ASEAN Cup.
