To solve the problem of lack of schools in the context of rapid population growth, Hanoi has been putting into use many new schools at all levels, especially at high school level.

In the 2024-2025 school year, Hanoi's educational scale continues to grow, leading the country with nearly 2.3 million students, more than 130,000 staff and teachers, and 2,913 schools. Recently, Hanoi has put into use a number of new schools at all levels.

This year, Thai Thinh Secondary School (Dong Da, Hanoi) welcomed students back to school with more spacious facilities after investment in construction and renovation. Ms. Dinh Thi Huong - Vice Principal of Thai Thinh Secondary School said: After renovation, the school has 5 new classrooms, along with separate functional rooms to meet the teaching and learning requirements according to the 2018 general education program.

"Previously, due to limited facilities, the number of classrooms was small, the number of students in each class was quite large, and the functional rooms were also "patchwork". After the Dong Da District People's Committee invested in facilities, the number of students in each class this school year will be about 40-45 students. The school has independent functional rooms for each subject with full teaching and learning equipment to help improve the quality of education", Ms. Huong informed.

Notably, among the newly put into use schools, many are projects to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024).

In Dong Anh district, 4 schools have just been recognized by the city and have signs to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital, including: An Duong Vuong Secondary School, Xuan Canh Secondary School, Kim Chung Kindergarten, Xuan Canh Kindergarten.

Previously, Dong Thap Primary School (Dan Phuong district) and Vo Thi Sau Primary School (Hai Ba Trung district) also had signs commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Capital Liberation Day.

In Thanh Tri district, Van Phuc Secondary School was newly invested in construction according to national standard school criteria, in line with the planning of the secondary school network in the area, as a project to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10) and the Liberation of Thanh Tri district (October 6), 70 years of the establishment of the Hanoi Education and Training sector.

Will build 30-35 new public high schools

Hanoi is the locality with the largest educational scale in the country with nearly 3,000 kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools - high schools and 29 continuing education centers. The whole city currently has nearly 2.3 million students.

Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong said that the biggest difficulty facing Hanoi at present is that the development of the planned school network in some areas has not met the population growth rate, and the progress of some planned school construction projects is still slow. In some districts, the number of students in classes is still higher than the regulations.

It can be seen that the most worrying "bottleneck" is that the city's high school level currently has only 117 public schools, fewer than the middle school, primary school, and preschool levels. This causes great difficulty and pressure for junior high school graduates taking the entrance exam for grade 10. Every year, the number of students admitted to grade 10 of public high schools only meets the requirement of 60 - 62%. In particular, the public school sector is struggling to concentrate in some densely populated inner-city districts with rapidly increasing student numbers.

According to the leader of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, the sector has consulted and proposed that the city allocate resources to build new public high schools for use. Specifically, next school year, 2 public high schools will be put into operation. In the period of 2025-2030, the capital will have 30-35 new public schools to meet the learning needs of students. Districts have allocated land to build schools and are currently in the review phase. For example, Cau Giay district will build 3 new public high schools; Hoang Mai, Dong Anh districts... will also build more schools.

In particular, the medium-term public investment plan has allocated capital for construction of 7 modern, advanced primary, secondary and high schools. 4/7 units have had investment policies and the Hanoi People's Council will approve this policy to serve as a premise for the units to implement the project. When the projects come into operation, they will help overcome the shortage of schools in some densely populated districts.
