Hanoi Goals from Pham Tuan Hai and Denilson in the first half helped Hanoi FC defeat the young SLNA team 2-0 in round 5 on the evening of December 10, regaining the joy of victory in V-League 2023-2024.

Before the match at Hang Day Stadium on the evening of December 10, Hanoi FC received a lot of good news. Captain Do Hung Dung extended his contract until 2026, while foreign player Denilson Pereira was registered to play after his suspension from his previous club ended. The whole team is also excited thanks to the impressive victory over the reigning AFC Champions League champions Urawa Red Diamonds.

Meanwhile, SLNA entered this season with a squad consisting mostly of young players born after 2000. When visiting Hang Day, coach Phan Nhu Thuat used a squad with an average age of 22.9, in which two players were born in 2005, namely goalkeeper Cao Van Binh and center back Le Nguyen Hoang.

The first 20 minutes of the match saw both teams play tit for tat before Hanoi FC gradually dominated as they controlled the ball better. The turning point of the match came in the 32nd minute when Nguyen Hoang let the ball touch his hand in the penalty area after a poor high pass with his teammate. Referee Hoang Thanh Binh spent four minutes consulting VAR, then directly reviewing the video before awarding the home team a penalty.

On the 11m mark, Pham Tuan Hai's mid-range shot into the left corner fooled Cao Van Binh, opening the score in the 37th minute. Three minutes later, SLNA's defense continued to make mistakes when they cleared the ball indecisively in front of the penalty area. Joel Tagueu took advantage of the opportunity to pass the ball to Denilson Pereira, who easily broke through Van Binh, scoring in his debut match for the capital team.

The striker, born in 1995, used to play for Granada's youth team in Spain, then played in Brazil, Portugal, and Saudi Arabia. He was registered to replace Herlison Caion but was absent from the last two V-League matches due to his suspension in Brazil.

Leading by two goals, Hanoi FC took the initiative to play slowly from the second half, while SLNA relied heavily on the ability of two foreign players Michael Olaha and Raphael Success. In the 64th minute, Success put the ball into Hanoi FC's net but it was not recognized because Olaha was offside before making the assist.

This 2-0 result helped Hanoi FC have their second win in the 2023-2024 V-League, after defeating Binh Duong 1-0 in round three. Coach Dinh The Nam and his team rose to ninth place with six points, one point behind Binh Dinh. SLNA ranked 11th with three points, equal to Khanh Hoa, but with a better goal difference (-4 compared to -6).
