On the afternoon of January 18, the Ministry of Education and Training announced the results of the national excellent student selection exam for the 2024-2025 school year. Accordingly, the Examination Council selected 3,803 prize-winning candidates out of a total of 6,482 candidates taking the exam, accounting for 58.68%.

Hanoi continues to lead the country with a total of 200 national excellent student awards (an increase of 16 awards compared to last year). In addition, 137 awards went to candidates from specialized high schools under the Hanoi National University and Hanoi Pedagogical University.
Ho Chi Minh City still ranked second nationwide with 166 prize-winning students (an increase of 56 prizes compared to last year). The High School for the Gifted under the National University of Ho Chi Minh City had 69 prize-winning students.

Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted (Bac Ninh) and Hanoi National University of Education High School for the Gifted have the most valedictorians in the national excellent student exam. Each school has 3 valedictorians.
The Ministry of Education and Training said that the results of the exam and the ranking of prizes showed that the number of students winning prizes this year was spread evenly across almost all localities. Some mountainous and border localities with difficult socio-economic conditions also had students achieving the highest rankings in the exam.
According to exam regulations, within 15 days from the date of announcement of results, candidates have the right to request a review of their exam.
The Department of Quality Management, Ministry of Education and Training, issues certificates to the winning students, the remaining students are also recognized with certificates of having attended the exam.
According to the plan, in March 2025, the Ministry of Education and Training will organize an exam to select high school students for national teams to compete in regional and international Olympics in 2025, for the subjects of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Informatics.
Candidates of the following subjects will be called to attend the 2025 Olympic team selection exam scheduled to be held in March 2025 if they achieve the following scores: Math from 24.00 points or higher; Physics from 26.75 points or higher; Chemistry from 25.875 points or higher; Biology from 25.50 points or higher; Informatics from 16.34 points or higher.
The national high school exam for the 2024-2025 school year will be held on December 25 and 26, 2024. There will be 6,482 candidates nationwide, an increase of 663 candidates compared to the 2023-2024 school year.
Candidates took the exam at 68 examination councils with 13 subjects: Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Information Technology, Literature, History, Geography, English, Russian, French, Chinese, and Japanese. This year, for the first time, Japanese was included in the exam.
According to the current Regulations on selecting excellent students at the national level, the total number of consolation prizes and above must not exceed 60% of the number of contestants; the total number of first, second, and third prizes must not exceed 60% of the total number of prizes; the number of first prizes must not exceed 5% of the total number of prizes.
