The Hanoi Department of Transport has just reported to the Hanoi People's Committee on the implementation of the report proposing investment policies and pre-feasibility studies for a number of transport projects, including the Ring Road 2 section from Nga Tu So to Cau Giay (Lang Road).
Accordingly, the investment project to renovate and expand the elevated and low-lying Ring Road 2 from Nga Tu So to Cau Giay has a total investment of more than 21,000 billion VND.
The Hanoi Department of Transport has proposed to split the project into two and prioritize the renovation and expansion of the lower Ring Road 2, approximately 3.8km long. The project starts at the Nga Tu So intersection and ends at the Cau Giay intersection. The estimated cost is over VND17,000 billion, including VND16,700 billion for site clearance and VND541 billion for construction.
According to the Department of Transport, Lang Road is only 10.5m wide each way, with a maximum traffic capacity of 3,000 vehicles/hour, but it has now reached 8,000 vehicles/hour, leading to frequent congestion during rush hour.
The implementation of the above project aims to reduce traffic pressure at the Nga Tu So intersection, promoting the effectiveness of the elevated beltway 2 section Vinh Tuy-Nga Tu So.
Thus, from the current width of about 21m for both directions, when the renovation is completed, Lang Street will be about 53.5m wide, with a design speed of 80km/h and will be the main urban axis.
With the project to invest in building the elevated beltway 2, the starting point will connect with the elevated beltway 2 already built at the Nga Tu So intersection and the end point will be at the Cau Giay intersection. The route is 3.8km long, 19m wide with an estimated investment of more than 3,800 billion VND.
The project implementation is part of the plan to close the inner-city belts, reduce traffic pressure at the Nga Tu So intersection, and promote the effectiveness of the completed elevated beltway 2 section Vinh Tuy - Nga Tu So.
The Department of Transport proposed that the City consider and assign the City Traffic Construction Investment Management Board to study the plan for the Ring Road 2 project, Nga Tu So - Cau Giay section, as a basis for implementation in the 2026-2030 period.
