From the lost ceramic line…
Chu Dau pottery is an ancient Vietnamese pottery line dating back to the 12th-13th centuries, flourishing in the 14th-15th centuries, but gradually falling into oblivion in the 17th century due to the influence of the power struggle between the Trinh and Mac dynasties. Although lost, the birthplace of this once famous pottery line in Thanh Lam district, Nam Sach district, Hai Duong town (now Chu Dau village, Thai Tan commune, Nam Sach) still passes down the poem "First material, second firing, third shape, fourth painting" to remind people of the once famous traditional craft.
Through the excavated and salvaged artifacts, the characteristics of Chu Dau ceramics are clearly shown in the design, glaze color, patterns, and sophisticated motifs imbued with pure Vietnamese cultural identity, truly reflecting the civilization of the Red River Delta. Chu Dau ancient ceramic artifacts are preserved in 46 famous museums in 32 countries around the world. Chu Dau Ceramic Joint Stock Company was established by Hanoi Trade Corporation in 2001 and is now part of BRG Group with the mission of restoring and developing the lost high-class ancient ceramic line.
At first, Chu Dau Ceramics Joint Stock Company encountered many difficulties in restoring this sophisticated, high-class ceramic line. The unique characteristics of glaze color, patterns, motifs... that no other ceramic line has of Chu Dau ceramics made artisans have to spend a lot of time researching and learning. The efforts of the enterprise collective have been duly rewarded.
Up to now, Chu Dau Ceramic Joint Stock Company has restored thousands of products based on ancient Chu Dau ceramic models and created many new models to meet market demand. Chu Dau ceramics conquers customers with special glaze, extracted entirely from the ash of the rice husk of yellow sticky rice. In addition, the drawings and patterns on the ceramics are very free and airy, not constrained or formal like other ceramic lines.
… to national brands
After more than 20 years, Chu Dau Ceramic Joint Stock Company has not only revived and developed the ancient ceramic line but also built up the position and national product brand. Chu Dau Ceramic has been honored to be recognized as a National Brand for 3 consecutive times. This is a proud recognition of the company's tireless efforts.
Currently, Chu Dau ceramics are mainly produced by traditional manual methods with 5 main product lines: restored products according to the quintessence of ancient ceramic models, decorative products, high-class ceramic gift products, household ceramic products and spiritual ceramic products. Among them, the famous are the pair of Hoa Lam ceramic vases and the Pipa vase. Other products such as: Phoenix ceramic vases, pearl drop vases, lotus vases, Ngu Hanh cups, Dragon wine pots, Tiger Talisman jars... are also products that make up the brand of Chu Dau ceramics.
In addition to favorable domestic consumption, Chu Dau ceramics have been exported to more than 20 countries and territories. Chu Dau Ceramics Joint Stock Company currently has more than 200 workers, of which 35 workers have been awarded the title of Vietnamese Craft Village Artisan by the Vietnam Craft Village Association. This is also one of the important factors contributing to the success of this ancient ceramic line.
The success in reviving the ancient ceramic line, but the ambition and aspiration of Chu Dau Ceramic Joint Stock Company does not stop there. The enterprise wishes that the Chu Dau ceramic brand will continue to make great strides in production and business. Thereby, preserving and conserving cultural and historical values from the past to the present and the future.
