Over the years, women's unions at all levels in the province have always paid attention to, created conditions for, and supported women in ethnic minority areas to promote their role as masters of their lives, build a healthy lifestyle, and aim to build women with comprehensive development.
Never stop trying
On an area of over 3 hectares of cashew farming and livestock land, Ms. Bo Rong Thi Hap (village 1, La Da commune, Ham Thuan Bac district) is busy feeding her livestock. Ms. Hap said: In the past, the couple had a very difficult and hard life. The harsh climate and dry land caused continuous crop failures. Therefore, in addition to gardening, the couple had to work for hire to save up and gradually decided to plant perennial crops in between short-term crops. Having access to many economic development support projects and technical training, her family's life has improved significantly. Her current assets include over 3 hectares of cashew, 1.5 hectares of rubber and dozens of cows, goats and pigs, helping her earn nearly 300 million VND each year.
With the same desire to change her life as Ms. Hap, Ms. K'Thi E (village 2, Dong Giang Commune, Ham Thuan Bac District) was bolder and more perceptive when she borrowed more than 50 million VND from the bank to open a restaurant. When the number of customers was stable, she expanded to sell other products. In addition, she and her husband still maintain taking care of 1 hectare of rubber, nearly 1 hectare of cashew and rice. Thanks to that, they have now rebuilt a spacious house with full amenities.
Overcoming many challenges, both Ms. Bo Rong Thi Hap and K'Thi E are confident, not resigned, not content with their lot but strive to rise up with the desire to assert themselves. Not only in the family, but they are also enthusiastic in local women's movements.
Pay more attention and support to ethnic women
With the motto of working towards the grassroots, bringing practical benefits to women's union members, women's unions at all levels in the province have accompanied and mobilized cadres and members to actively carry out the union's movements and compete with practical actions suitable to the local situation. Typically, in Ham Thuan Bac, the campaign "Ham Thuan Bac people do not litter" was launched and 3 campaigns were organized to collect cans and plastic bottles, exchange trees, clean up, and build a "Security Light" road with solar lights. Meanwhile, in Tuy Phong, Ham Tan chose to register to help 17 ethnic members carry out the campaign "Building a family of 5 no, 3 clean" and develop the economy to escape poverty according to multidimensional criteria. ...
According to the Standing Committee of the Provincial Women's Union, the positive point is that the Union's officials have regularly grasped the situation and have solutions to diversify the forms of gathering women in the ethnic minority region through establishing and maintaining clubs, groups, and teams; maintaining and expanding the credit and savings group model. In the first 6 months of 2023 alone, 363 members have been developed, bringing the total number of ethnic minority members to 17,003 people/24,819 ethnic women, reaching 68.5%. Of which, there are 580 movement cores and 5 political cores among ethnic minorities. In addition, the activities of Project 8 "Implementing gender equality and solving urgent issues for women and children" under the National Target Program on socio-economic development in the ethnic minority and mountainous regions, phase I (2021-2025) are being implemented.
Through many channels and regular and thematic branch and association activities, ethnic minority women raise their vigilance, do not be superstitious, divide, or sabotage the great national unity bloc and the issue of Vietnam's sea and islands. Even local officials regularly maintain close contact with prestigious people among the people and local political leaders. Thanks to that, they promptly detect and coordinate to fight against the tricks of subjects who take advantage of difficult circumstances and limited legal awareness of the people to transfer production land granted by the State for illegal profit; do not listen to the incitement of forces to oppose the Party and the State, disrupt local security and order...
Despite facing many challenges, the activities and programs accompanying ethnic minority women to develop comprehensively of the Provincial Women's Union are helping members and women to be confident, proactive, and actively participate in social activities to build new relationships, thereby creating conditions for exchange, learning, development, and affirming their roles and positions.
