QR code payment covers from big restaurants to street vendors

In recent years, the trend of cashless payment in general and scanning QR codes for money transfers in particular has really taken off. Thanks to its convenience and speed, this transaction method is not only popular in eateries, restaurants, supermarkets... but also infiltrated every corner of traditional markets or street vendors, getting closer to small traders, including the elderly who have always been used to using cash.

At a traditional market on Vuong Thua Vu Street (Thanh Xuan, Hanoi), Ms. Thu Trang's fruit stall always has a QR code hanging in front. After checking the successful transaction of a customer who just scanned the QR code, she excitedly shared: "Since creating and having this QR code, I have saved a lot of time and effort because I don't have to read account information for each person every time there are many customers, in addition, I don't have to worry about returning the change or the missing money."

Many vendors in the market also said that scanning QR codes is a “win-win” method for both sellers and buyers. Currently, most people have the habit of carrying their phones to the market instead of cash, and if there is no method of payment by bank transfer, customers are willing to go shopping elsewhere.

In fact, according to statistics from the State Bank of Vietnam, in just the first 2 months of 2024, the QR code method has skyrocketed by 846.41% in quantity and 1146.14% in value; and is expected to continue to "dominate" the market due to its optimal convenience. Not to mention, many banks are constantly launching discount programs and gift incentives to encourage users to switch to cashless payments, making this transaction method more and more popular and preferred.
