On the morning of April 1, Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC) listed gold price pieces at 100 - 102.3 million VND per tael, up 500,000 VND in both directions compared to yesterday. Other brands also raised the price of gold bars accordingly.
Each tael of plain rings at SJC also increased by 400,000 VND to an all-time high of 99.4 - 101.6 million VND. The selling price of plain rings at some other brands this morning exceeded 102 million VND per tael. For example, at PNJ, plain rings are currently listed at 99.7 - 102.1 million VND per tael. Bao Tin Minh Chau buys and sells plain rings at 99.9 - 102.2 million VND. The difference between buying and selling prices is currently around 2 million VND per tael.
It is estimated that if investors bought gold at the beginning of this year, they could have recorded a profit of more than 18% if they sold at this time.
Domestic gold prices are rising as the precious metal on the international market continues to set new peaks. At 9:30 a.m. Hanoi time, each ounce of gold reached 3,140 USD, equivalent to 97.7 million VND per tael according to Vietcombank's selling rate. The difference between domestic and international prices is currently nearly 5 million VND per tael.
The market rose as investors worried about US import tariffs. President Donald Trump is expected to announce reciprocal import tariffs on April 2. A day later, tariffs on imported cars will also take effect. These tariffs have the potential to fuel inflation and drag down growth in the US.
This morning, the domestic USD price also increased. Vietcombank listed the exchange rate at 25,410 - 25,800 VND, up 60 VND compared to yesterday. BIDV raised the USD price to 25,440 - 25,800 VND.
On the free market, foreign exchange points are currently trading USD at around 26,000 per USD. In Ho Chi Minh City, some shops are listing 25,850 - 25,950 VND per USD.
