Domestic pepper prices updated on the morning of March 27, 2025 |
Domestic pepper prices continue to climb, currently reaching around VND157,000 - 160,000/kg, up more than 68% over the same period last year, reflecting a shortage of supply. Although the harvest is at its peak in Dak Nong and Dak Lak, farmers' mentality of holding onto their goods still dominates the market, causing pepper sales to be limited.
Experts say that pepper prices will fluctuate greatly in the coming time. Although the new crop has reached the market with increasing volume, farmers’ mentality of hoarding this year has led to them limiting sales.
In the long term, the uptrend can still take place when consumption demand remains high and there are expectations that China will soon increase imports again.
The reason for the limited supply is not only due to the reduced output due to the impact of the weather, but also because farmers are not under financial pressure thanks to income from other crops such as durian, coffee and avocado. Meanwhile, businesses and traders, although wanting to buy, face high bank interest rates, limited storage space and seasonal cash flow pressure.

Although the market may fluctuate in the short term due to the harvest season, the long-term outlook for pepper prices remains positive thanks to increased demand from the EU, the US and Asia. China is expected to soon boost imports, supporting pepper prices to maintain their upward momentum.
Amid domestic shortages, many processing enterprises have turned to foreign sources of supply. According to Comexstat, Brazil exported 12,200 tons of pepper in the first two months of the year, worth $76.37 million, up 92% year-on-year. Vietnam is currently Brazil’s largest pepper importer, with 4,203 tons worth $25.9 million, nearly three times the value of last year.
