By 2017, it had increased to nearly 32,902 hectares, with an output of more than 38,000 tons. However, by 2018, the newly planted pepper growing area in Dak Nong tended to decrease. The rate of pepper dying quickly, dying slowly, and diseases occurred frequently in the gardens.
According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Nong province, in recent years, the pepper growing area of Dak Nong has grown steadily at 34,000 hectares. This area is consistent with the pepper development orientation of the province according to the Dak Nong Province Master Plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.
Currently, the average pepper yield in the whole province is about 2.4 tons/ha; the total annual pepper output is about 70,000 tons. In particular, Dak Nong has developed 547 hectares of pepper with organic certification; about 332 hectares apply GAP process.
In Dak Nong today, the movement of growing pepper in an organic and biological way, achieving certifications for good agricultural production, is growing stronger. Pepper plants are reviving in areas that were previously considered "dead land".
Dak Nong pepper growers now have a new mindset thanks to sustainable production and high economic efficiency. This is the premise for the sustainable development of Vietnam's pepper industry in the future.
Similarly, instead of falling into the vicious cycle of "cutting down and planting, planting down", more and more farmers in Binh Phuoc province are choosing to grow pepper organically, thanks to changing their mindset for sustainable development. With this approach, many households are still living well, despite erratic weather, pests and unstable prices.
Mr. Hoang Van Dinh, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Thong Nhat Commune, Bu Dang District, said that to stabilize production, the Farmers' Association of the commune has mobilized people to form a clean pepper cooperative in association with Nedspice - Vietnam Spice Processing Company Limited to provide guidance on fertilization processes, care, and pest control on plants.
At the same time, farmers absolutely do not use pesticides, chemical fertilizers, or banned substances, but only use manure and biological sprays to create clean, beautiful, green, productive, and high-quality pepper gardens.
Thong Nhat Commune Clean Pepper Cooperative was established in 2021 with 20 members. The cooperative has cooperated with Nedspice - Vietnam Spice Processing Company Limited to purchase 100% of output products with a commitment to higher than market prices.
However, the cooperative must comply with organic care and fertilization processes and "say no to chemical fertilizers and herbicides".
In the new rural commune of Hung Phuoc, Bu Dop district, the agricultural product that is recognized and highly appreciated is the organic pepper of Mr. Vo Ngoc Que's household. With an area of 5 hectares, over the years, his family has always strictly implemented the "3 no" production process: No chemicals, no pesticides and no use of banned substances.
Mr. Que said that to have clean, quality organic pepper products, it is necessary to strictly follow the planting and care methods according to the regulations that have been trained. His family's pepper garden is always the greenest and most fruitful in the region.
Compared to other production methods, organically grown pepper plants have a survival rate of over 95%, product value is always 20-30% higher than regular pepper and there is no need to worry about product output, according to the People's Public Security Newspaper .
