Experts say pepper prices may continue to rise in the short term, especially if China, one of the largest customers of Vietnamese pepper, increases imports again. However, pepper prices may stagnate as supplies from the new harvest are gradually replenished.
Besides, pepper prices have decreased in the last two sessions, but the market is still in an upward trend thanks to the purchasing pace of important markets such as the United States and China, so the price range can increase sharply or only about 10-15%.
Therefore, businesses need to closely monitor market developments and purchasing movements from partners to have appropriate purchasing, storage and cash flow plans, both to increase output and export turnover and to ensure business efficiency.
Farmers in Dak Nong province harvest pepper |
Currently, pepper growing provinces in the Central Highlands have begun harvesting the main pepper crop, however, this work is taking place slower than in previous years due to a lack of labor and the impact of climate change.
This year’s pepper harvest season, farmers are very excited because of the high pepper prices. This has encouraged them to continue investing in garden care and improving product quality. However, productivity in some areas has decreased due to the impact of the weather. In Dak Nong, the pepper growing area is stable at 34,000 hectares, with an average yield of about 2.4 tons/ha, total output reaching about 70,000 tons per year.
According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association (VPSA), in 2025, global pepper output is forecast to continue to decrease while stable consumption demand is the driving force for Vietnam's pepper exports this year.
