The Government Office has just issued Document No. 2546 conveying the direction of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha regarding the issue of pork and pork prices.
The Government leader directed the Minister of Agriculture and Environment to preside over and coordinate with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, associations, and enterprises to assess the market situation.
Ministries promptly direct and guide agencies and localities to implement solutions to ensure supply and demand, focus on promoting livestock farming, herd restoration and disease control... Thereby, controlling intermediaries, strictly implementing instructions on price management and reporting to competent authorities on matters beyond their authority.
Previously, Dan Tri newspaper also reported on the high price of pork.
Specifically, in February, the price of live pigs nationwide increased to 68,000-80,000 VND/kg. Specifically, in the Northern region, it fluctuated between 68,000-74,000 VND/kg. In the Central and Central Highlands regions, the price was at 68,000-79,000 VND/kg. Meanwhile, the price of live pigs in the Southern region fluctuated between 69,000-80,000 VND/kg.
A survey at some traditional markets in Hanoi shows that, compared to the end of last year, the price of pork has increased by about 10,000-30,000 VND/kg. For example, baby back ribs are up to 160,000-190,000 VND/kg, pork belly is at 140,000-160,000 VND/kg, lean shoulder meat is 140,000-160,000 VND/kg...
Speaking to Dan Tri reporter, Mr. Nguyen Kim Doan, Vice President of Dong Nai Province Livestock Association, said that the continuous increase in pork prices is mainly due to the scarce supply.

In the South alone, about 3,006 pig farms in Dong Nai will have to be relocated due to environmental issues in 2024, causing a shortage of supply in this area. In addition, this year's pork supply is in great shortage due to the serious developments of African swine fever since last year, causing difficulties for farmers and large enterprises.
Many people are concerned that this item could increase to a record price of more than 100,000 VND/kg like in May 2020, but Mr. Doan said that this price is unlikely to repeat this year.
"In May 2020, pork supply was in short supply, mainly among small-scale farmers. But this year, the number of pigs raised has increased sharply in large-scale corporate farms. Therefore, the supply shortage will only last for a short period, unlike in 2020," said Mr. Doan.
