DNVN - On March 20, 2025, the price of live pigs continued to decrease in some provinces and cities. Currently, the purchase price of live pigs nationwide fluctuates from 71,000 - 79,000 VND/kg.
Pig price in the North
In the Northern region, the live pig market on March 20 recorded a decrease in many localities, with prices ranging from 72,000 - 73,000 VND/kg.
In Bac Giang and Thai Nguyen, the price of live pigs decreased by VND 1,000/kg, down to VND 73,000/kg and VND 72,000/kg, respectively.
Similar decreases were also recorded in Phu Tho and Hanoi, when trading prices dropped to VND72,000/kg.

Meanwhile, provinces such as Yen Bai, Lao Cai, Hung Yen, Nam Dinh, Ha Nam, Vinh Phuc, Ninh Binh and Tuyen Quang still maintain prices in the range of 72,000 - 73,000 VND/kg.
Pig price in Central Highlands
In the Central Highlands region, the live pig market on March 20 fluctuated unevenly, with the purchase price ranging from 71,000 - 78,000 VND/kg.
Thanh Hoa and Hue both recorded a decrease of 1,000 VND/kg, currently trading price is at 72,000 VND/kg.
In Quang Binh, a similar decrease also occurred, causing the price of live pigs to drop to 72,000 VND/kg.
In Dak Lak alone, pork prices fell more sharply, down 2,000 VND/kg, bringing the price down to 75,000 VND/kg.
Other localities such as Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan remained stable, fluctuating from 71,000 - 78,000 VND/kg.
Pig price in the South
In contrast to the downward trend in the North, the live pig market in the South on March 20 remained stable with prices ranging from 78,000 - 79,000 VND/kg.
In many provinces and cities such as Binh Phuoc, Dong Nai, Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Tay Ninh, Long An, Dong Thap, An Giang, Can Tho, Kien Giang, Hau Giang, Ca Mau, Tien Giang, Bac Lieu, Tra Vinh and Soc Trang, the price has not changed, continuing to stay at 78,000 - 79,000 VND/kg.
Some localities such as Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Vinh Long and Ben Tre have slightly adjusted down by 1,000 VND/kg, currently the purchase price is at 78,000 VND/kg.
According to experts, the price of live pigs in the coming days may continue to decrease due to abundant supply while market demand does not have sudden growth.
The current price of 71,000 - 79,000 VND/kg nationwide still ensures profits for farmers compared to the same period in 2024. However, the current price reduction pressure has not seriously affected the livestock industry, but farmers need to closely monitor the market to have appropriate business plans.
According to information from the Nghe An Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, African swine fever is currently occurring in four localities including Tan Ky, Con Cuong, Que Phong and Hoang Mai Town. Each location has recorded 1-2 outbreaks, mainly occurring in small-scale livestock farms, according to Nghe An Newspaper.
Mr. Tran Vo Ba, Deputy Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Nghe An province, recommended: “To ensure disease safety, people need to choose breeds with clear origins and check the health of livestock before buying. During the breeding process, it is necessary to fully vaccinate, limit the use of pond water and feed of unknown origin. In addition, it is necessary to regularly spray disinfectants to treat the environment inside and outside the barn, and at the same time limit the contact of traders with the breeding area.”
In case of an outbreak, people need to promptly notify local authorities to implement timely control measures. At the same time, authorities will step up propaganda to limit the situation of selling off pigs or concealing the disease, helping to control the outbreak to the smallest extent.
