The cooperation and connection between the state - schools - businesses in developing skills for workers is a model that needs to be replicated, helping vocational training achieve high quality, closely following the needs of the labor market. This is the theme emphasized in this year's Vietnam Labor Skills Day, October 4.
Vocational skills demonstrate the value of workers
In the labor market report for the third quarter of 2023, Ms. Nguyen Hoang Hieu, Director of the Center for Human Resource Demand Forecasting and Labor Market Information in Ho Chi Minh City, commented: "The labor market - employment is changing more and more dynamically, the demand for human resources focuses on qualified and skilled workers".
According to Ms. Nguyen Hoang Hieu, to keep up with the labor market and increase their competitive advantage when looking for and working, workers need to diversify their skills and actively improve their knowledge and qualifications.

Mr. Tran Anh Tuan, Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Vocational Education Association, assessed that vocational skills are the core value of workers today and in the future.
According to the European Commission, new technologies emerging in the next decade could reshape millions of jobs. It is estimated that by 2025, 50% of employees worldwide will need to be retrained in relevant work skills due to digitalization.
Mr. Tran Anh Tuan emphasized: "With the constant development in many fields, the knowledge gained in university is a necessary but not sufficient condition to support workers in their work."
Therefore, according to Mr. Tuan, continuously learning new professional skills to meet job requirements is a factor in the success or failure of workers. Training human resources by organizing professional certificate and international skills training courses is the trend of the future.

The Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Vocational Education Association commented: "This not only helps workers have a set of skills to meet the daily changing job demands, but also helps them continuously study, improve their professional qualifications, and update new information and skills to apply in their profession."
Have skills, have good income
To develop the Labor and Employment Strategy in Ho Chi Minh City for the period 2023-2025 and vision to 2030, the Ho Chi Minh City Institute for Development Studies (HIDS) is conducting a comprehensive study of the labor market in the city.
According to HIDS research results, in recent years, the number of workers working in industrial production enterprises in the city has tended to decrease, especially in labor-intensive industries.
However, during the period 2011-2020, the number of industrial workers decreased but the industry's growth rate remained at an average of over 6% per year. This shows that industrial labor productivity increased during this period.

According to the research team, in the current context, a skilled workforce is crucial to labor productivity. Vocational skills bring better competitiveness and higher labor productivity.
Recent research also shows that workers trained in vocational education have higher employability, income and job satisfaction than those who do not receive vocational education. That is, vocational education students find jobs more easily and earn higher incomes.
The reason is that workers who study vocational education are better equipped with skills to adapt to new digital technologies, their employability and competitiveness with other workers are improved.

Therefore, the research team affirmed that investment in vocational training and improving vocational skills should be considered one of the focuses of the city's labor and employment strategy in the coming time.
Businesses and schools rely on each other
At the end of August, Thu Duc College of Technology (TDC) held a ceremony to receive practice equipment sponsored by Dat Vinh Tien Company Limited with a total value of more than 1 billion VND.

According to Mr. Vo Long Trieu, Principal of TDC, the support from businesses is very practical because it can help the school improve the quality of training, shorten the gap between schools and businesses. With these devices, students have more conditions to practice and improve their skills and professional expertise during the learning process.
Mr. Nguyen Tran Thanh Long, General Director of Dat Vinh Tien Company, considers it a companion activity of the enterprise with the school, providing modern equipment to teach students knowledge close to the reality of production. After graduating, students can go to his company to work, benefiting the enterprise; or go to work at another company, also benefiting society.
The activity of connecting schools and businesses not only takes place at TDC but almost all vocational schools in Ho Chi Minh City consider it as a strategy to develop the school's training quality and have actively implemented it in recent years.
Nguyen Tat Thanh College is famous for its health care and beauty industries and actively cooperates with beauty centers, spas, etc. to conduct short-term training courses.

With this cooperation, the school takes advantage of the most modern equipment currently available on the market, provided by the enterprise, so that students can start working immediately after completing their studies. In addition, the school also takes advantage of the team of highly skilled workers working at the enterprise to guide students through practical operations and work experience.
Businesses have a source of quality, skilled reserve human resources who are always ready to work when needed without having to spend money on training.
Mr. Tran Nguyen Thuc, Principal of District 12 Economic and Technical College, said: "The connection between state policies, schools and businesses brings benefits to all parties, improves training efficiency and students are assured that they will have a job right after graduation."
On October 1, 2020, the Prime Minister signed and issued Decision No. 1486/QD-TTg, deciding to take October 4 every year as Vietnam Labor Skills Day.
The purpose of organizing the unified Vietnam Labor Skills Day nationwide is to call on the domestic community to respond and support the development of labor skills through specific actions to improve the skills of Vietnamese laborers, contributing to improving productivity, labor efficiency and national competitiveness.
At the same time, organizing this anniversary nationwide also aims to encourage the spirit of lifelong learning and training to improve the skills and qualifications of students and workers; honor and affirm the position and importance of skilled workers, especially highly skilled workers with excellent professional skills.
The Government also wants to promote the cooperation and connection of the State - Schools - Enterprises and the whole society in developing skills for workers to adapt to the context of globalization and international integration.
