Mr. Le Quoc Phong, Secretary of Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee, said that after hundreds of years of formation and development, from the first farmers who brought flowers to grow on Sa Dec land, along with the continuation of many generations, the unique flower village has been formed as it is today.

Mr. Tran Thanh Man, Politburo member, Permanent Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, spoke at the first Sa Dec Flower and Ornamental Festival held in Dong Thap province.

Sa Dec flowers and ornamental plants are now not only the brand of a key agricultural industry in Dong Thap province with a value of more than 6,000 billion VND, but have also become highly symbolic names, affirming the value, tradition, quality, and unique characteristics of this land.

From a modest flower village, Sa Dec has now taken on the stature of a flower city. From a limited number of varieties and supplying products within the scope of a province or region, it now has a growing area of ​​over 3,000 hectares with over 2,000 varieties of flowers and ornamental plants, supplying over 12 million products annually.

The largest flower and ornamental capital in the West organizes the Sa Dec Flower and Ornamental Festival for the first time.

Coming to Sa Dec flower village in any season of the year, visitors can immerse themselves in the space of colors of leaves, flowers, and fresh vitality from young buds and new shoots. At the same time, they can feel the bustling atmosphere of the flower village farmers, the bustling trade and the eagerness of tourists to visit.

The opening ceremony of the first Sa Dec Flower and Ornamental Festival was held very grandly as a way to pay tribute to flower growers in the largest flower village in the West.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Tran Thanh Man, Politburo member and Permanent Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, highly appreciated Dong Thap province's initiative in organizing this Flower and Ornamental Festival.

This is a meaningful cultural, economic and tourism event, aiming to honor and recognize the tireless contributions of many people attached to flowers, from farmers, cooperatives, experts, scientists, to the business community; having the opportunity to promote the values ​​of special local agricultural products.

The festival welcomes a large number of international friends and tourists from near and far to visit, travel, experience and participate in activities within the framework of the festival. This is also an opportunity for the province to promote its tourism brand and attract investment, creating conditions for businesses to meet, exchange, introduce products and cooperate, bringing the flower - ornamental, agricultural and tourism brands of Dong Thap to confidently supply, meet domestic demand and reach out to the region and the world.

Places to visit on New Year's Eve

The first Flower - Ornamental Festival organized by Dong Thap province, with the theme "Love of land - Love of flowers" will take place for 7 days (from December 30, 2023 to January 5, 2024). This is the largest-scale event ever held in the capital of the pink lotus land - Dong Thap.

The festival is an opportunity for Dong Thap to introduce more fully and comprehensively to friends near and far about the potential, strengths, and unique beauty of Sa Dec ornamental flowers along with many rich, attractive, and unique activities.

Dong Thap will also introduce an artistic flower arrangement space; display and exhibition of domestic and international flower products; a flower market, a photo exhibition space "Sa Dec past and present"; display and exhibition of ornamental plants; and flower lantern decoration.

For the first time, people of Sa Dec Flower Village were able to immerse themselves in the largest flower and ornamental festival ever.

In addition, street art programs, programs recreating the Ancestor Gratitude Ceremony and honoring the Sa Dec ornamental flower growing profession... and many other activities will satisfy visitors during the Festival days.

According to the reporter of Giao thong Newspaper, during the evening of the event, Sa Dec city (Dong Thap) welcomed thousands of visitors to visit, experience and capture many beautiful moments with colorful flower baskets.

Ms. Thai Thuy Duong (34 years old, living in Ho Chi Minh City) shared that when she heard that the largest flower and ornamental capital of the West was organizing the Flower and Ornamental Festival for the first time, she and her family visited Sa Dec very early.

She said: "It was really surprising that Dong Thap organized such a grand flower festival. I have also visited many places where ornamental flowers are grown, but when I came to Sa Dec, everything was completely different because each flower basket seemed to have human love, so it looked more soulful and lovely."

People expect that after the first Sa Dec Flower and Ornamental Festival, the largest flower and ornamental capital of the West will become an interesting destination for tourists from near and far.

Nearby, not taking his eyes off the stage screen while watching the art programs, Mr. Huynh Van Quan (50 years old, living in Sa Dec city) said: "I am a flower villager and feel even more proud when Sa Dec ornamental flowers are increasingly reaching further and becoming known to many people.

Visiting this festival is the first time in my life that I have seen such a large flower and ornamental event held in my hometown. I hope that after this event, Sa Dec flower city will be a destination and a choice for many tourists from near and far in the near future."

Currently, the total area for growing flowers and ornamental plants in Sa Dec is nearly 950 hectares, concentrated in Tan Khanh Dong commune (324 hectares) and Tan Quy Dong ward (320 hectares).
The whole city has about 4,000 households producing flowers and ornamental plants, accounting for about 50% of the agricultural households in the city; more than 200 flower and ornamental plant businesses. Sa Dec has 4 cooperatives, 1 credit fund, 10 cooperative groups and 3 guilds operating related to the flower and ornamental plant industry.
The largest flower and ornamental capital in the West currently has about 2,000 varieties of flowers and ornamental plants of all kinds. Of these, ornamental plants for construction and interior decoration account for 65%, flowers of all kinds account for 20%, and bonsai plants account for 15%.
Popular flowers are chrysanthemums, forget-me-nots, sunflowers, primroses, gerberas, lisianthus, periwinkle, peonies, orchids of all kinds... Along with flowers, many gardeners in Sa Dec have high incomes from growing ornamental plants such as yellow apricots, ornamental leaves, bonsai...
