According to the Vietnam News Agency Special Correspondent, at exactly 2:50 p.m. (Beijing time, or 1:50 p.m. Hanoi time) on April 7, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue led a high-ranking delegation of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Beijing, starting an official visit to the People's Republic of China from April 7-12, 2024, at the invitation of Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China Zhao Leji.

Welcoming the Chairman of the National Assembly and the delegation at Beijing Capital International Airport were Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China Wang Dongming; Deputy Secretary General of the National People's Congress of China Hu Xiaoli, Director of the Foreign Affairs Department of the National People's Congress of China Wang Wen and a number of senior officials of the National People's Congress of China.

Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Sao Mai, Embassy staff and representatives of the Vietnamese community in China warmly welcomed the delegation.

This is the first high-level visit after the two countries upgraded their relationship, the first visit to China by Comrade Vuong Dinh Hue as Chairman of the National Assembly, and also the first visit to China by the Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly in 5 years.

The visit is of utmost importance in maintaining the momentum of high-level contacts, implementing and concretizing the common perception between the top leaders of the two Parties and two countries; not only contributing to strengthening cooperation between the two legislative bodies but also being a high-level strategic exchange between the two Parties and the two States of Vietnam and China.

Vietnam-China relations have maintained a good momentum of development and achieved many important results. High-level exchanges and contacts have taken place actively.

Following the official visit to China by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in 2022 (from October 30 to November 1, 2022) and in 2023, many delegations of Vietnamese leaders visited China.

In response, from December 12-13, 2023, General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping and his wife paid a State visit to Vietnam, and the two sides issued a "Joint Statement on continuing to deepen and elevate the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and building a Vietnam-China Community of Shared Future of Strategic Significance".

Since the beginning of 2024, high-level exchanges and contacts have continued to take place in a vibrant and flexible manner. Exchanges and cooperation between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the National People's Congress of China have been maintained regularly and achieved many practical results.

After the 13th National Party Congress, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue had two online talks with Chairman of the 13th National People's Congress Li Zhanshu (June 17, 2021) and Chairman of the 14th National People's Congress Zhao Leji (March 27, 2023).

Notably, the online meeting with National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue was the first foreign activity of Comrade Trieu Lac Te right after being elected as Chairman of the National Assembly, demonstrating China's importance in strengthening exchanges and cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries.

The cooperation agreement between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Chinese National People's Congress signed in 2015 during the official visit of National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung was generally implemented smoothly.

During this visit of National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, the two sides are expected to sign a new Cooperation Agreement with many new and rich contents, demonstrating a closer and more substantive level of cooperation between the two legislative bodies.

Cooperation in all fields, especially in economics and trade, is developing more and more substantially. Import-export turnover between the two countries in 2023 reached 171.9 billion USD. Vietnam continues to be China's largest trading partner in ASEAN and China's 4th largest trading partner by national criteria (after the United States, Japan, and South Korea).

China's investment in Vietnam in 2023 increased by over 77%, reaching 4.47 billion USD with 707 projects, becoming the 4th largest investor in Vietnam.

Tourism cooperation has gradually recovered, Vietnam has welcomed 1.75 million Chinese visitors, ranking second among tourist markets to Vietnam.

It is expected that during the visit, there will be talks, meetings, and contacts between National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and key leaders of the Party, State, and localities of China right after the second session of the Two Sessions in 2024. Within the framework of the visit, there will be a number of cultural, economic, and people-to-people exchange activities between the two countries...

This will be an important occasion for the two sides to have in-depth strategic discussions on major issues in bilateral relations as well as international and regional situations of mutual concern.

Thereby further strengthening political trust, realizing the common perception between the top leaders of the two Parties and two countries, promoting cooperation in all fields, especially economics-trade, investment, tourism, and local cooperation.
