Applying digital transformation (DTS) and bringing digital technology into agricultural production is an inevitable trend, helping to reduce costs, improve productivity and product quality. Grasping this trend, in recent times, many localities in the province have encouraged economic sectors to bring digital technology into agricultural production, equipping farmers with new knowledge to apply in farming practices, creating many quality agricultural products, bringing high economic efficiency.
Xuan Minh Agricultural and Rural Development Cooperative (Tho Xuan) organizes a pesticide spraying service using drones for farmers in Giao Thien commune (Lang Chanh).
According to Director of Xuan Minh Agricultural and Rural Development Cooperative (Tho Xuan) Do Thi Hoa, to save costs and labor in production seasons, the Cooperative has used drones to sow and spray pesticides for more than 200 hectares of local production land and develop services for many neighboring localities. The application of drones has brought many benefits, creating uniformity in care, saving labor, production costs and bringing economic efficiency 2 times higher than traditional production methods.
Also one of the leading cooperatives in applying digital transformation to production, Mai An Tiem Agricultural Cooperative, Nga Thach Commune (Nga Son) has researched and installed an automatic, drip irrigation system using Israeli technology. It is worth noting that the entire irrigation system is automatically controlled through software installed on smartphones. Therefore, no matter where you are, as long as you have an internet connection, you can water and fertilize your plants. Mr. Nguyen Van Nam, director of the cooperative, said: Determining that applying digital transformation to production and business brings new values to cooperatives, in addition to applying it to production, the cooperative also widely deploys it in promotional activities to promote product consumption. For example, we conduct livestreams to promote and sell products on platforms such as tiktok, facebook... and put the cooperative's vegetables, tubers and fruits on social networking sites, e-commerce platforms postmart.vn, Shopee, Lazada, Tiki... Each month, the cooperative produces and consumes about 30 to 40 tons of vegetables and fruits of all kinds. In particular, thanks to the superiority of digital transformation, the cooperative has connected with many agents and consumption units in Hanoi, Hai Phong and many provinces and cities across the country.
According to the analysis of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the application of technology and digital transformation has been carried out in many fields. Typical examples include: effective application of the database system to monitor forest changes; application of modern equipment and techniques to detect forest fires early; construction and establishment of a data system to serve the issuance and management of planting area codes; water level monitoring and warning system on river banks and hydroelectric reservoirs; fishing vessel monitoring system; Vietnam National Fisheries Database System (VNFishBase); Vietnam Animal Disease Information System (VAHIS) to manage and provide information on disease situations in the province; application of database software to manage monitoring and evaluation capacity of the cooperative and rural development economic sector; promoting the application of information technology in the management of production chains, safe food supply, promoting the development of the agricultural digital economy...
In addition, units under the agricultural sector also coordinated and supported 40 production and business units in the agricultural sector to register to participate, promote, introduce and trade food on the software connecting supply and demand of agricultural products and safe food in Thanh Hoa province. In the first 10 months of 2024, the agricultural sector trained and guided 900 production households, cooperatives and 30 enterprises producing and trading agricultural, forestry and fishery products to register sales accounts, have products promoted and introduced and have electronic payment accounts on the e-commerce platform postmart.vn; supported 13 enterprises producing and trading agricultural, forestry and fishery products under their responsibility to integrate information into QR codes to serve traceability...
However, due to the lack of synchronous infrastructure for agricultural development in the province; agricultural and rural infrastructure has not met the requirements of agricultural modernization, the level of production mechanization is still low, the human resources working in the agricultural sector have low technical qualifications... so the province's digital transformation models are still very modest, digital transformation is only applied in certain stages.
According to Decision 749/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister on approving the "National Digital Transformation Program to 2025, with a vision to 2030", agriculture is one of the eight priority areas for digital transformation. Therefore, Thanh Hoa's agricultural sector has been coordinating with localities to promote propaganda and raise people's awareness of the role and importance of digital transformation in cultivation; support farmers in using information technology equipment; train, improve skills, access capacity and apply digital technology to agricultural production for farmers. At the same time, coordinate with relevant departments, branches and units to introduce digital platforms and related e-commerce platforms, helping people grasp knowledge, promote production, processing and consumption of agricultural products in the digital environment, contributing to product promotion and gradually transforming agricultural production methods towards smartness, modernity and higher added value.
