The ship, which is more than 100 meters long and 18 meters wide, had previously attempted to escape the stranded area but failed. Denmark sent a large naval vessel to assist, expected to arrive on September 15. However, before the naval ship arrived, a Greenland fisheries research vessel passed by and rescued the yacht.

At the time of the accident, three passengers on board were quarantined for Covid-19. The rest were healthy. SunStone, the ship’s Florida-based owner, said the passengers and the ship were not in danger and there was no environmental pollution due to the grounding.

A representative of the cruise line said they were "grateful" to those on board for "excellent cooperation in difficult and unexpected circumstances." The ship was taken to a nearby port to assess the damage. Passengers were allowed to disembark so they could return home by air, ending their trip early.

Lis, a passenger, said no one panicked about the incident. If there was any fear, it was that “the ship would run out of alcohol before we got there.” Another passenger, Tracey Varga of Phoenix, Arizona, said most of the people on board were upbeat and “trying their best.” The crew was praised for providing good support to passengers.

Debbie Brown, an Australian tourist, said that thanks to her two nights stuck, she had the chance to see the aurora borealis and it was "so exciting".
