German carmaker BMW has teamed up with shipbuilder Tyde to develop the electric hydrofoil yacht The Icon with a range of over 90 km.

The Icon is a small yacht that uses high-voltage BMW i batteries to provide zero-emissions travel, Yanko Design reported on May 17. Unlike many yachts of its size, The Icon ditches its internal combustion engine in favor of an electric drive system.
The hydrofoils lift the hull above the water, providing a smoother ride for passengers. In addition, this technology helps reduce aerodynamic drag, allowing the yacht to reach high speeds and significantly reduce energy consumption.
The Icon is 13.15 m long and has a top speed of 55 km/h. It is powered by a pair of 100 kW electric motors and is powered by six BMW i3 batteries. At a cruising speed of around 44 km/h, The Icon is virtually silent thanks to its electric motors and hydrofoils. Its range is over 90 km.
The Icon's design is quite different from the traditional. The widest point of the hull is 4.5 m at the back and gradually tapers towards the front. The interior design of the yacht is inspired by the art of origami. The sloping ceiling combined with intricate design elements and many large windows create a space filled with light. The dominant blue color adds a fresh and modern feel. The seats inside can rotate 360 degrees, giving passengers a panoramic view of the surrounding sea.
With The Icon, BMW and Tyde successfully combine luxurious design with environmental efficiency. From hydrofoil technology that delivers high speeds without creating waves or drag to the battery-powered electric drive system, the boat sets a new standard for BMW in creating quiet, emission-free underwater mobility.
