In the early morning of January 5, at the top of Fansipan (Sa Pa, Lao Cai), the temperature dropped to 0 degrees Celsius, causing water vapor to condense, forming a layer of ice covering the wooden floor and grass on the top of the mountain. This is the third time this winter that frost has appeared on Fansipan, after the periods on November 23, 2024 and December 23, 2024. However, this is the thickest ice cover since the beginning of winter 2024, and is also the 6th consecutive day that frost has appeared on Fansipan.
A few days ago, frost and a thin layer of ice appeared on the top of this mountain at some times at night and early morning. Information and images of frost were quickly shared widely on social networks and attracted tourists to Fansipan.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hai (a tourist from Hai Duong) has been to Fansipan 4 times but this is the first time she has witnessed the ice directly. "I feel very excited by the scenery here. Touching the ice feels like an ice cream. This is an interesting experience and not easy to have," Ms. Hai said.
According to information from the Fansipan Legend tourist complex, on November 5, the temperature on the mountain top fluctuated from 0-8 degrees Celsius, the air was cold but gradually became sunny, creating ideal conditions for tourists to visit. This season, the mountain top also often has a sea of clouds.
When hunting for ice on Fansipan peak, visitors should prepare thermal clothing, warm, waterproof jackets, hats, wool scarves, and non-slip sneakers. At this time, in addition to hunting for ice on Fansipan peak, visitors to Sa Pa can combine watching the cherry blossom season.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the North is being affected by a cold, dry air mass with strong divergent winds, causing little cloud, and a sharp drop in night and early morning temperatures. Mountainous areas may drop below 12 degrees Celsius, while midlands and plains below 15 degrees Celsius. The cold weather at night and dry weather during the day is forecast to continue until the end of January 8.
