On November 30, the National Assembly passed a Resolution with the policy of continuing to implement the Ninh Thuan nuclear power project, and also conducting research on nuclear power development programs.
The above information was announced by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan at the regular Government press conference on the afternoon of December 7.

According to Mr. Tan, institutional issues related to nuclear power are being gradually improved, including the revised Electricity Law recently passed by the National Assembly, which includes content on nuclear power development.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade has also advised the Government and the Prime Minister to establish a Steering Committee for the construction of nuclear power plants and a Working Group to continue to launch the nuclear power program in Vietnam.
In order to soon implement the nuclear power project in Ninh Thuan, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will soon submit to competent authorities to adjust, amend and supplement the Power Plan VIII. This is a basic legal basis in the matter of concretizing the policy of the National Assembly and the Central Government.
“We will also make recommendations to the competent authority to select an investor to implement the nuclear power plant. The selection of an investor is a very important content, from research, proposal, construction and operation of the power plant,” Mr. Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan stated.
At the press conference, Mr. Tan also said that the Ministry of Industry and Trade requested the leaders of Ninh Thuan province to study and soon create conditions for a clean site to implement the project. At the same time, create consensus among local people so that the project can be implemented most smoothly.
Regarding some challenges in implementing the project, the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade pointed out that choosing technology to ensure safety is a major issue. In addition, it is necessary to carefully study the recommendations of international organizations and especially the recommendations of international atomic energy agencies.
“We are completely confident that with careful steps, along with today's advanced technology, efficiency and safety will increase,” the leader of the Ministry of Industry and Trade emphasized.
Regarding the total investment, Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan said it depends on many factors. Currently, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has estimated that the preliminary figure is not exact but it will certainly be in the billions of dollars. "It also depends on the scale, location, technology requirements and safety requirements," said Mr. Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan.
With the implementation of this project, Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan said it will create a clean, basic energy source that meets the current dual standards in the trend of developing green energy and renewable energy.
In addition, there will be a safe energy source to serve socio-economic development, not only in Ninh Thuan but also in the surrounding areas and meet the needs of the whole country. Even in the future, with the strong development of renewable energy, clean green energy, we will also aim for export.
In addition, the project will motivate us to have a high level of technology and science, especially atomic energy science, to develop the country.
