Today's Japanese Yen exchange rate surveyed on the morning of May 25, 2024 at banks, specifically as follows:

At Vietcombank , the Vietcombank Japanese Yen exchange rate is 157.13 VND/JPY and the selling rate is 166.31 VND/JPY, down 0.4 VND on the buying side and down 0.42 VND on the selling side.

At Vietinbank, the Yen exchange rate decreased by 1.01 VND in buying and increased by 0.74 VND in selling, equivalent to 158.01 VND/JPY and 167.71 VND/JPY.

At BIDV Bank, the Japanese Yen exchange rate decreased by 0.36 VND in buying and 0.47 VND in selling, reaching 158 VND/JPY and 166.4 VND/JPY, respectively.

At Agribank, the Japanese Yen exchange rate for buying and selling is 158.46 VND/JPY and 166.26 VND/JPY - down 0.17 VND for buying and down 0.19 VND for selling.

Yen exchange rate trend forecast

Japan is ready to take appropriate market action “at any time” to counter excessive movements in the yen, the country’s top currency diplomat Masato Kanda said on Friday, while issuing a fresh warning about the chance of renewed exchange-rate intervention.

Kanda also said he regularly keeps in close contact with foreign counterparts, especially in the United States, on issues including financial markets.

“In a flexible exchange rate regime, we would not need to intervene if currency fluctuations are stable. But if there are excessive fluctuations that adversely affect the economy, we need to act and it is reasonable to do so,” Kanda told reporters.

“We are ready to act at any time if necessary to counter currency fluctuations,” he said after accompanying Japanese Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki to the first day of a meeting of G7 finance leaders in the northern Italian city of Stresa.

Kanda made his comments a day after U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said currency interventions should only be used rarely and in a clearly communicated manner.

At the G7 meeting, Japan told its partners to be vigilant against excessive volatility in currency markets driven by speculative moves, Kanda said.

Japan also said at the meeting that it was important to “respond appropriately” to excessive, chaotic moves in the currency market that could harm the economy, he added.

Japan will push for the G7 finance leaders' joint communique to include language reaffirming the group's stance that excessive currency movements and volatility are undesirable, he said.

Kanda, who oversees Japan's monetary policy as vice finance minister for international affairs, declined to comment when asked about the yen's recent decline.

The yen has lost 11% against the dollar this year on expectations the US Federal Reserve will be in no hurry to cut interest rates, widening the gap between US rates and Japan's ultra-low rates.
