Dong Thap General Hospital has promptly admitted and treated all 29 suspected cases of food poisoning, and other treatment facilities in the province have not recorded any suspected cases of food poisoning. The provincial interdisciplinary inspection team conducted an inspection at a food supplier located in Ward 1, Cao Lanh City and took 4 food samples to send to Dong Thap Testing and Inspection Center for testing suspected indicators; requested the food supplier to temporarily suspend restaurant business and mobile food services from the date of the record until the competent authority's conclusion on the suspected food poisoning case.
Through the investigation of related subjects according to the regulations on investigation and handling of food poisoning issued with Decision No. 39 dated December 13, 2006 of the Ministry of Health, the attack rate of the meal from 5:30 am to 7:00 am on April 6, 2025 was recorded as 11.37%, equal to the attack rate of the meal from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm on the same day (April 6). Because the attack rate between the two meals was equal, it was not possible to determine which meal caused the food poisoning.
The results of food testing of 4 dishes including: fried chicken, braised pork with duck eggs, white rice, minced pork soup cooked with Malabar spinach, recorded the result of minced pork soup cooked with Malabar spinach having an E.Coli index exceeding QCVN 8-3:2012 of the Ministry of Health. However, the test results of the specimens did not detect E.Coli, so there is not enough basis to conclude that minced pork soup cooked with Malabar spinach is the cause. The results of testing the specimens performed by Dong Thap General Hospital recorded that 12/12 stool culture samples did not contain pathogenic intestinal bacteria.
Also according to the Department of Health, through the investigation process of suspected food poisoning according to the provisions of Decision No. 1320 dated October 3, 2024 of the Dong Thap Department of Health on the process of investigating and handling food poisoning. In particular, focusing on investigating food poisoning according to Decision No. 39 dated December 13, 2006 of the Ministry of Health on the Regulations for investigating food poisoning and the test results of samples of specimens and food are sufficient grounds to conclude that this is a food poisoning case involving more than 30 people/case. However, there is not enough basis to determine the cause, the meal and the food causing the food poisoning case.
As reported by Dong Thap Electronic Newspaper: on the afternoon of April 6, 2025, the Department of Health received information from Cao Lanh City Medical Center that 33 students, teachers, and volunteers participating in the STEM Festival at the University of Education had symptoms of abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, etc. Of which, 29 people (mainly students from other provinces) were transferred to Dong Thap General Hospital for treatment on April 6, 2025 due to suspected NDTP. All patients were treated and discharged on 2 days (April 7-8, 2025), with no serious cases or deaths.
