The Vietnamese chess team met the Chinese team in the mixed chess final. This was a rematch between the two teams. Previously, in the qualifying round, the Vietnamese team lost to China.
The Vietnamese chess team's lineup includes Lai Ly Huynh, Nguyen Thanh Bao, and Nguyen Hoang Yen. Nguyen Minh Nhat Quang was not registered for this match. Meanwhile, the Chinese team still kept its original lineup, including Zhao Xinxin, Wang Yang, and Wang Linna.
In table 1, Lai Ly Huynh showed his weakness against Zhao Xinxin, but Nguyen Thanh Bao played better than player Wang Yang. In the remaining table, Nguyen Hoang Yen and Wang Linna showed balance in every move.
The Vietnamese chess team could not create a surprise against the Chinese team.
The final match will be played in slow chess. If the score is tied, the two sides will play rapid chess until a winner is determined.
After 3 hours of competition, the result was not surprising. The Vietnamese chess team lost to the home team when two athletes, Lai Ly Huynh and Nguyen Hoang Yen, lost first. With this result, the team won the silver medal.
This is the third silver medal of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation at the 19th ASIAD. Previously, Ngo Huu Vuong (shooting) and Nguyen Van Khanh Phong (gymnastics) were the ones who achieved similar results. The Vietnamese Delegation had 1 gold medal by Pham Quang Huy (shooting) and 12 bronze medals.
