After 10 years in the fashion clothing business, Mai Thi Thuy (40 years old) was robbed for the first time. The store in Van Dinh town was rented by Thuy 1 year ago.
This area is not as bustling and crowded as the city. Due to the nature of her work, Ms. Thuy usually opens the shop until 10pm. She hires a sales person from 8am to 7pm every day.
"On August 29, my family went on vacation, so I asked a staff member to help look after the store for a few days. Normally, he finishes work at 7pm, and I sell directly at night. Since I was away, this staff member was in charge of selling until 10pm," Ms. Thuy shared.
If Ms. Thuy had not gone on a trip, the person who would have been held at knifepoint would not have been the employee but her.
Immediately after the incident, Ms. Thuy's employee panicked and called her to inform her that he had met a person who threatened to rob her of her money.
"Over the phone, the employee was sobbing, her voice broken with panic. She said: 'Sister, I was robbed. They put a knife to my back.' I quickly asked her if she was okay, luckily the employee was safe," said Ms. Thuy.
The robber used a knife to threaten the sales staff.
After experiencing the incident, this employee was still in shock when he first encountered the robber.
Immediately after receiving the report, the police began investigating on the evening of August 29. The store owner extracted a video recording the robber threatening the employee.
Ms. Thuy said: "The store is equipped with 5 cameras at different angles. The police asked the staff to guard the scene. When they arrived, the force confiscated the knife and the sandals left behind by the robber."
After posting the article and video extracted from the store's camera on social media, Ms. Thuy did not expect the content to be shared by many people. The article spread to the family of the young man who robbed. Recognizing their family member, the family persuaded this person to turn himself in that night.
Over the past time, Ms. Thuy has also read many stories and dangerous situations lurking for sellers. Therefore, after this incident, she also equipped herself with the necessary skills to protect herself from unexpected incidents.
Previously, a video clip was circulated on Facebook showing a young man holding a knife to a woman at a clothing store.
According to the security camera footage in the store, at the time of the incident, a young man wearing a blue long-sleeved shirt was standing looking at the goods when he suddenly turned around, held a knife close to the woman and shouted: "Stop, I'm a robber."
The woman screamed in panic. But the young man holding a knife reassured her: "If you keep quiet and don't say anything, I won't bother you."
The woman was still panicking and crying loudly. The man holding the knife asked her to sit on a chair and stop crying.
This person forced the victim to hand over all the cash and money in the account to him.
Crying and doing as the "robber" asked, waiting until the subject was distracted while focusing on checking the cash drawer, the shop owner ran out into the street and shouted "robbery".
Authorities quickly began investigating and identified the suspect as Do Manh Hoan (born 2005, residing in My Duc district, Hanoi).
After many times of propaganda and persuasion, Do Manh Hoan surrendered himself to Ung Hoa District Police.
Police determined that because he had no money to play the game B52Play, Hoan had the idea of robbing property. Thinking and doing, Hoan went to the market to buy a knife and hid it in his waistband.
To avoid detection, Hoan took the motorbike to a repair shop in Huong Son, My Duc to have the license plate and front fairing removed and sent it back to the shop.
During the extended investigation, Do Manh Hoan also confessed to successfully carrying out two previous robberies in Kim Bang district, Ha Nam province and Chuong My district, Hanoi on the same day, August 29, using similar methods, taking a total of more than 1,500,000 VND.
Ung Hoa district police continue to consolidate records to handle the subject.
