After more than 6 years of collecting discarded items, the owner of Hidden Gem Coffee has created an impressive green space that attracts young people in Hanoi and international visitors to visit, take pictures and enjoy drinks.
According to the reporter, the recycled coffee shop named Hidden Gem Coffee (No. 1 Hang Mam Street, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi) has a rather narrow frontage of only over 1m2. In the photo is the second floor space of the shop, decorated with very unique recycled items.
Every corner of the coffee shop is collected and recycled by the owner, arranged quite impressively.
According to research, this cafe has 4 floors, can accommodate about 100 customers at a time and is almost full at noon. In the photo is the area displaying and reselling items such as recycled cloth bags and cloth bags.
The green space is surrounded by recycled materials inside the cafe. Lunch time is when young people and international guests come to enjoy drinks and take pictures here.
Shop owner Nguyen Thi Thu Trang shared that the previous generation had the habit of using an item for a very long time, for example, clothes from older siblings were often left for younger siblings to wear. Household items also have a long "lifespan", if broken they can be repaired and used again. Meanwhile, the modern hustle and bustle of life causes the life cycle of items to end quickly, causing waste and affecting the environment.
Trang and her husband used to work in the tourism and hotel industry and had a lot of contact with international guests, so they have long determined to protect the environment. In 2018, they opened a shop with a recycling model to spread the message to everyone.
"Many items that are no longer valuable were thrown into the landfill, so we picked them up and brought them back to find a way to repair them," the shop owner added.
In the shop, some of the seats are old car seats, which her husband has repaired and reused. Ms. Hoai’s job is to arrange the furniture beautifully or redecorate them to make them look more eye-catching.

Ceiling lights made from bicycle rims are quite impressive.
Recycled glass bottles hung up to make a very unique display.
The staircase area is quite impressively designed, surrounded by recycled materials creating a classic, attractive look. In particular, the cafe uses the main yellow-brown color tone, combined with old items, creating a nostalgic, peaceful space in the middle of the bustling old town.

"The space here brings a sense of peace and the way they decorate with recycled items surprised us," said Nguyen Hai (Hoang Mai district) when he first came to the shop to enjoy coffee.
Mr. Hai added that he was very excited about the way he used recycled materials to create this unique coffee shop space, and that it was probably “unique” in Hanoi. “I will come here soon to enjoy coffee and take pictures with my family,” Mr. Hai shared.
