On stage, he often plays the roles of soldiers, police officers or individual roles in plays such as "The Silently Shining Stars", "White Night", "The 9th Oath"...
As a director, Lai Huy Hoang is known for his youthful works that bring laughter to young audiences such as the play: "The King Without a Throne", the musical "Cat Zorba"... Flexibility, color, and personality are the advantages of the young director born in the old land of Ha Tay.

- Dear Lai Huy Hoang, when did your love for the stage begin?
- My aunt is a drama actress. When I was young, due to difficult family circumstances, I often stayed with her, followed her on business trips with the Ha Tay Drama Group (formerly), and experienced the life of artists. That helped me develop a love for drama. In drama, there are conflicts, just like life, there are many twists and turns, contradictions... There are many different lives performed on stage, but in general, they all have messages that help us become better, find answers to have a more positive view of life.
- In addition to the plays: "Live Forever at 17", "White Night", "Silent Stars Shine", "The 9th Oath" is also a play that left many impressions on Lai Huy Hoang right from the beginning when he first entered the stage?
- In the play “The 9th Oath” by author Luu Quang Vu, I played the role of Deputy Regiment Commander Hanh. This was my first role when I graduated and became an official actor of the Youth Theater. I was chosen after surpassing many “candidates”. The roles in the play “The 9th Oath” all have rich and attractive inner lives, like a miniature picture of society at that time.
For the first time in my life, I experienced situational comedy. I stuck to the character's personality and in many scenes, although I didn't act funny, I still brought the audience a lot of hearty laughter... With the staging style of the Youth Theater, we were able to mature through our roles. I still remember that every performance at that time was an extremely interesting experience.
- With the roles he has played, from supporting to leading roles, I feel that Huy Hoang also has a knack for the roles of soldiers, police officers, and soldiers. Is it both a chance and your own experience?
- Stories about soldiers, about soldiers, policemen... always bring me a lot of inspiration and strong impressions. For example, the first time I came to Dong Loc intersection (Ha Tinh), I saw the bomb crater, listened to the tour guides tell stories about the female heroes and I couldn't hold back my tears. In my mind, I had to make an art program about the 10 female youth volunteers who sacrificed at Dong Loc intersection.
Through the art program “10 orchids”, I hope to convey to the audience a message about the values of life. And now, I am continuing to write the story of the 64 Gac Ma soldiers who sacrificed their lives on Truong Sa archipelago to protect the national flag in the sea and islands of our homeland.
I will never forget the image of soldiers standing guard on submerged islands with many difficulties and hardships both physically and mentally... so that we can sleep peacefully. Those stories about real people and real events always give me real material to put into my stage works.
- What stage work is Lai Huy Hoang cherishing and will stage when he has the opportunity?
- In the future, I hope to stage the work "Truong Ba's Soul, Butcher's Skin" in the form of a performance, in which the entire performance is expressed mainly through body language, using special types of lights to create scenes, the color of the light creates visual emotions... The light player will have a hard time because he has to act with the artist on stage. The audience can see the breath of light, the intensity of light and color are carefully measured by the director's emotions conveyed through each light performance.
- You have been involved in both the stage and some television projects. Can you share about the most recent film you participated in?
- Most recently, Huy Hoang had the opportunity to participate in the TV series project “The Milk Flower Secret Order” of Hanoi Radio and Television Station. “The Milk Flower Secret Order” is a TV series under the film project “For the Love of Hanoi” adapted from two short stories “Dia Fai” and “The Prisoner of the Past” by Major General, writer Nguyen Hong Thai, referring to a special case of the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department, Hanoi City Police.
I still remember the days when I transformed into Tinh “chập” in “Mat Lệnh Hoa Sữa”, almost all of Tinh “chập”’s scenes were filmed in the evening and at night, so it was a bit difficult. I wanted my character to be close to real life, so right from choosing hairstyle, clothes and how to express emotions, I researched and chose carefully. And I believe that, even though it was just a small role, Tinh “chập” left an impression on the audience.
I am often assigned to roles with unique personalities and “colors” but usually do not have much room to act. So I have to use the “space” assigned to me, even though it is small, to make the audience remember my role. I try to make the most of those short moments. If I have 2 minutes, I also try to make the audience remember me extremely well.
- Sincerely thank Lai Huy Hoang!
