Model of turning plastic waste into learning tools for poor students of the Women's Union of Hoa Thuan I Hamlet, Hoa Loc Commune (Mo Cay Bac).
In 2025, the Provincial Women's Union (VWU) recognized 21 exemplary women's associations. Each association has its own unique character, but they all have in common the creativity in their approach and the spirit of being close to the people and the grassroots.
In Ben Tre City, the Women's Association of Quarter 8 (An Hoi Ward) stands out with its diverse models: women workers' group, women's legal group, women's group classifying waste at source, women's Buddhist group... Not only that, the association also actively takes care of social security with hundreds of gifts, free meals, scholarships, and supports women to start businesses, contributing to uniting members and creating positive spillovers in residential areas.
In rural areas, the Women's Union of Tan Phong Hamlet (Thanh Thoi A Commune, Mo Cay Nam District) effectively implemented the "1+1" model. One well-off member helps one in difficulty. During the year, the union supported 45 members to develop the economy with more than 300 million VND. In addition, the water hyacinth weaving group created jobs for dozens of local women. In Giong Sau Hamlet (Tan Loi Thanh Commune, Giong Trom District), the Women's Union of the hamlet maintained regular meetings on the 18th of each month, without any absence. What kept members were not slogans, but affection. As the head of the Women's Union of Giong Sau Hamlet, Nguyen Thi Nhuan, said: "Any woman in difficulty, we know. Any woman in need of capital, the union will introduce her immediately. No empty promises, no one is forgotten."
As someone who has been involved in the association for many years, the Head of the Women's Association of Binh Thanh Hamlet, Hoa Nghia Commune, Cho Lach District, Le Thi Pha Ly, shared: "As a grassroots association officer, the most important thing is to understand the members. The model of "3 have, 3 know" helps us get closer to the sisters. Knowing their faces, knowing their circumstances, knowing their needs, from there we can help them correctly and accurately."
From that understanding, the association has helped many members access loans, receive support for starting a business, receive health care, and even get job referrals and scholarships for their children. In 2024, the Binh Thanh Hamlet Association was recognized as a model of skillful mass mobilization at the district level.
Not only closely following the lives of members, the branches also flexibly apply information technology to operate more effectively. For example, at the Binh Son Hamlet Branch (Ngai Dang Commune, Mo Cay Nam District), the establishment of the Zalo group "Women working far away" or "Revolving capital contribution" has helped women who work far away to stay updated with the association's activities and receive timely support when facing difficulties.
A common feature of model branches is that they do not stop at being at the forefront of movements but also focus on sustainable development for members. For example, in Hoa Thuan 1 Hamlet Branch (Hoa Loc Commune, Mo Cay Bac District), in addition to promoting flower planting and waste sorting, the branch also organizes vocational classes and small production groups to help women increase their income and gradually escape poverty.
Vice President of the Provincial Women's Union Do Thi Hue Anh said: "After more than 10 years of persistently building model Women's Unions and developing core members, the whole province now has 348 model branches, reaching 36% of the total number of branches; 64,071 core members, accounting for 20.7% of the total number of members in the whole province. The above figures reflect the continuous efforts of the unions at all levels over the past time". This result is a vivid demonstration of the innovation and creativity in the operation methods of the union, especially the promotion of emulation movements associated with the practical life of union members and women. The activities have clearly promoted the proactive and positive role of women in economic development, building happy families, and effectively participating in social security programs in the locality.
“Model branches are not only a bright spot in carrying out the tasks of the association, but also an important nucleus in building a strong association from the grassroots. It is from dynamic, creative branches that are closely attached to the lives of members that create a solid foundation for the Women's Union at all levels to develop sustainably, meeting the requirements of the new situation.” (Vice President of Provincial Women's Union Do Thi Hue Anh) |
